When I was growing up I wanted to be an archaeologist. I dreamed about digs in exotic locales around the world, discovering ancient ruins and celebrating lost cultures. That bubble burst when I realized I didn’t like getting dirty. So I became a Makeup Artist instead, traveling the world, studying history and art and learning languages along the way. But! There is so much good history in here that I really started getting more of a comprehensive understanding of ancient Roman history. This was my favorite part!
I thought about all the things I would want to know if I was traveling to a country I hadn’t been to before, all the questions I would be asking, and tried to write a book that answers these questions. The books have a few line drawings at chapter headers, maybe a map or two particular to a discussion, and no photographs at all. They are not You’ll find that some guidebooks tend to be more visual, with plenty of images and diagrams and less written content, while others are text-heavy and rich in information. Others include handy extras such as maps.
