About this deal

We all know that there is not much gold in the world. It's gold's thing. How much is not much? A widely cited statement by Warren Buffett is that all the mined gold in the world could fit into a cube measuring 20m on each side. The US Geological Survey, which includes the more than 50,000 tonnes in underground reserves, suggests that the cube could be expanded to measure 28m on each side. Estimates range from as low as 150,000 tonnes (Gold Money) to 2.5 million tonnes (the Gold Standard Institute). Why do these estimates vary so wildly? It is very difficult to estimate how much gold was mined over thousands of years of history – How much was reused? What was its purity? – and it is moderately difficult to estimate current levels of gold extraction, with some countries reluctant to disclose figures and considerable illegal mining activity slipping under the radar. Or, for something completely different… experience the life of a medieval knight before battle… under the cover of canvas with a difference… complete with a luxurious four poster bed and crisp cotton bedding… try Knights Glamping at Leeds Castle. I would suggest following the example of the grandiose men (and women, but mostly men) that came before you: build a castle from practical materials, then cover it with gold leaf. There is a good reason why solid gold castles do not exist. We are absolutely thrilled to be one of only 156 organisations throughout the UK to achieved the highest-level award. As an organisation, we have been committed to the welfare and opportunities for veterans, their families and the wider communities for many years, and by continuing our work with RFCA for Wales, we have been able to continue enhancing policies and working practices to support the Armed Forces. From our experience, employing staff with military experience has helped to strengthen our business and we hope this award helps to encourage veterans and reservists to continue to work with us in the future. What Curators Say

Ten employers have been presented with the prestigious Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold Award at a special ceremony at a Welsh Castle. Also known as the Sponsor’s Mark, this stamp is unique to whoever has sent the piece for testing. With antique gold, this is more likely to be the maker than it is today, with importers, wholesalers and retailers now all having their own mark. The Standard Mark

Of course, there is also its worth to consider. Even lead roofing was a popular target for thieves. El Dorado avoided being stripped bare like the Happy Prince on account of its non-existence, but that didn't stop the likes of Raleigh giving it their best shot. In 1321, King Edward II gave the castle to his Royal Steward. When Edwards’ Queen Isabella arrived at the Castle seeking shelter however, she was refused admission and even fired upon by archers. Edward II was not amused and successfully lay siege to the castle. Six years later Edward was murdered but Queen Isabella kept the castle until she died in 1358. In 1957, when Ghana became independent, the castle came under the care of the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB). In the early 1990s the building was restored by the Ghanaian Government, with funds from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), with technical assistance from the Smithsonian Institution and other NGOs. a b Boults, Elizabeth, and Chip Sullivan. The glittering awards evening began with a drinks reception with guests treated to music from Cerys Rees regimental harpist of the 3 rd Battalion The Royal Welsh.
