About this deal

Like FiestaOwner, I too have a HDR-2000T, the only differences to the 1800 being that it has a 500GB (a few can have a 1TB one, rare though) hard disk rather than the 350GB one on the 1800, and it also has a USB 2 port if you want to upload video or photos for storage (which I used, though just to see if it worked).

Manage your TV viewing with ease thanks to the Humax HDR-1800T. Featuring multiple connectivity options, 500 GB of storage, and a twin digital tuner, you can keep up to date with all of your favourite programmes. Recordings Galore

Before you copy the HD recordings to the USB Flash, or USB HDD, then you could use a 3rd party piece of software called foxy to tweak one of the recording's internal flags. If you did this then the HD programmes would also be decrypted on USB copy. Details about foxy can be found on another Humax forum called hummy.tv. Live TV App, when installed on a mobile device and paired with the FVP-5000T when in the home, provides a multi-room solution for viewing TV in another room. What would be the maximum size disk the Humax could work with, internally or via USB port? Any particular type or form factor needed? Pause and rewind live TV, record two programmes at once and record entire series at the touch of a button. The 1TB hard drive holds up to 600 hours of recordings, smartly organised into categories and series.

The fascia is minimally adorned with a few stylised buttons controlling power, volume and channel changing. A sliver of light peeps out from below the central ridge, glowing red when recording or blue when watching live TV. There’s no LED readout – everything you need to know is displayed onscreen. If you were to attach a USB flash drive or a USB external HDD then you could copy recordings to the drive using the functions on the HDR-1800T. Any standard or Radio recordings will be very slow to export to the drive as the HDR-1800T will decrypt the copy. If you use FTP directly to a PC the transfer will be a lot faster but none of the recordings will be decrypted.Pause live TV to answer the door or make a cup of coffee then return to where you left off. No more missing that vital moment or dialogue. With the 320GB hard drive you can record and store up to 80 hours in HD of your favourite programmes. what are my options for transferring the files themselves rather than streaming to my PC and recording them (again)? I am quite capable of fitting a bigger hard disk – I used to build PC’s! The major advantage of the Manhattan T3-R is that it can give you TV in 4K quality, with incredible colours and sharpness. You can also watch YouTube on your TV screen. Made with a 500GB hard drive, it can store up to 300 hours of recordings. Like the Humax models, this one can pause and rewind live TV and has a search function. Besides, you can record an entire series and plan your viewing up to a week in advance. However, the Manhattan T3-R can record fewer simultaneous programmes — just two at once. Step up to the 1TB HDR-2000T and recording time increases to 250 hours of HD and 600 hours of SD, plus it comes with a wireless dongle in the box and adds BBC News, BBC

The Humax Freeview box has the ability to show pictures in Full HD quality for stunning colour and sharpness. On demand and Catch up programmes are also available in HD. Audio output is highlighted by Dolby Digital Plus and Pulse sound, so you get the purest and cleanest cinema sound in your living room. The ultimate subscription-free TV experience: the T3-R perfectly combines over 85 Freeview channels with on demand TV from BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My5, UKTV Play and more. Both the .Ts and .Tts files played almost instantaneously in VLC. I would think that VLC would mean more to yourselves because a lot of it is meaningless to me, so I kept with all the defaults. Is open source and available for loads of platforms (but not 9 3/4). More info - https://www.videolan.org/vlc/With the Ethernet port rigged up to your router, you can also stream your own content from DLNA servers on the same network as the HDR-1800T. The unit supports an impressive range of formats including MKV, AVCHD, AVI, DivX, WMV, XviD, MP3, AAC, WMA, WAV and JPEG. If you want to make a recording, just highlight it in the programme grid and hit OK. A dialogue box asks if you’d like to record the whole series, the whole programme or set a reminder. Easy peasy. If a recording conflicts with others, onscreen dialogue boxes let you select which one to cancel.
