The app selection is focused rather than bountiful; Netflix has pride of place on the top row and all the UK catch-up apps are covered (as Freeview Play), with Disney+ and Britbox available also. There’s VIDAA Free, which rounds up a selection of free content from the likes of Plex, Vevo, YouTube and Facebook Watch for more options. The sound modes of this TV include Standard, Theater, Music, Speech, Late Night, Sports and Auto. As with the image, most people will probably choose either “Standard” or “Auto”. But if you’re having a movie night, you might want to switch to Theater because it enhances the surround sound effect to some extent. Still, we would recommend buying a separate soundbar to improve the sound. Connections Make the most of the 4K screen with the range of features Hisense has included. Connect the TV to the internet using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Once online, on the VIDAA U5 platform, you can enjoy a huge collection of apps such as Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV, BBC iPlayer and more. What’s more, with Freeview Play built in, you’ll have access to over 40,000 on-demand TV shows and 700+ boxsets at your fingertips.
Hisense E7HQ review
Hisense E7HQ is a great choice for those who want an affordable 4K QLED TV. You get a colorful, crisp image, although the HDR brightness could be better. And the design of the TV will be a nice addition to your room. It is a pity that the sound is not quite up to par, but this is easily solved by connecting a separate sound bar. Let’s start with what’s good. The bezel is discreet enough to not intrude on the TV viewing experience, and the depth of the set is just 78mm without the stand, making it appreciatively slim in appearance.
If you’re willing to spend a bit more for an even better piece of kit, the Samsung AU9000 review (50AU9000) was rated five stars in its T3 review. While it may not have Dolby Vision, it does have great picture performance from most sources. The remote is a similar effort to previous and a slight improvement as it doesn’t attempt to cram as many buttons into a small space. It’s a curious situation, perhaps exacerbated by the new models in the Hisense range taking more importance. While the Hisense remains a capable performer, it falls short of in a few areas.Which leads me to the one egregious aspect of the A7G’s design. The stand is just too big. If you have an area (or whatever furniture you’re using) big enough to accommodate both the A7G and a soundbar – and you will want to partner this TV with a soundbar – then it’s fine. If you don’t, the stand causes some unnecessary faffing about to make space. When it comes to picture modes, there are a few to choose from. Those being HDR Day, HDR Night, HDR Dynamic, HDR Sports or Auto. Choosing HDR Day does make it more visible in the sun but it also makes colours look a little over the top, while HDR Night dulls them out a little too much. Smart Services are intended for use by persons sixteen (16) years of age or older. Assembly is easy and, like before, there’s a cable clutter system to route cables through the protruding ‘feet’ of the stand for a tidier area. The stand supports the TV well, just like it did on the older model, but it takes up a lot of space. But does the more affordable price suggest the A7G is a downgrade on what came before?
