About this deal

So Miss Marie-France Leger did a spectacular job marketing this book on tiktok the last few months, and I was so excited to finally get my hands on it. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed. Commodores Play Two Baseball Games with U.T. in Knoxville,” Nashville (Tennessee) Banner, January 23, 1923: 10. There were multiple time where I was just yelling at Hunter to just stop being mean:/ He was very rude but that is what made him so real. His pain and suffering really got to you, so you understand why he is the way he is. one thing i hate more than… peas. or the texture of broccoli. IS DOORMAT WOMEN AND HOE-ING MEN. guess what this book had? 😠 GUESS 😠

After, Nic finds a man with a grocery delivery on her front porch, which he insists on giving her. She threatens to call the police, he wishes her goodnight and calls her by her full name. It is assumed that Lane hired him to do so. [6] After they kissed for the first time the rest of the book is basically all s** scenes and absolutely no character development. He just stopped drinking even though he had a serious drinking problem all bc he’s dating her? And their relationship just simply worked with no issues even though they both have incredible amounts of issues???Nothing feels earned and none of it is convincing. The plot and the relationships especially. I hate the “I can fix you” mentality that plagues the heroine. It’s so exhausting. This book just does not deserve the amount of energy it takes to get through it. John Hunter, Thomas Lane, and Vivek Jampala have spent the bulk of their legal careers collaborating together on criminal cases. Despite working for separate offices, it was seldom that one of these attorneys would try a case, litigate a motion, or pursue an appeal without the help and input of the other two. In their early careers, they routinely worked in concert with one another to draft briefs and motions for many of South Texas’ finest criminal defense attorneys, granting them valuable insights from experienced professionals and helping them stay on the cutting edge of criminal defense practice. Lawyers Trying for Job with the Boston Braves,” Brooklyn (New York) Daily Eagle, April 9, 1924: 28.

i was really excited about this book because of the excerpts the author had shared on her tiktok account. the excerpts were intriguing but the book itself was underwhelming. I’m sorry but who is in love with Hunter????????? Like whooooo? Because there’s no way someone fell in love with him. There’s nothing to fall in love with!!!! He’s a terrible human! Also, his dad, stepmom, best friend and everyone in town should get arrested for letting him drive drunk practically every day. Like yea I get that your mom died but why are his family/friends normalizing the fact that he goes to the bar every single day and also don’t speak up when he drives drunks every day even though a DRUNK DRIVER was the reason the mom died???? I seriously never hated a love interest until I read this book. Lane was Conrad's mentor before he became a resident. In Identity Crisis, it is revealed that she had done a lot for him in the past. However, not much is known about their relationship. Their relationship begins to deteriorate once Nic discovers that Lane is over-treating her patients. During the Braves training camp, Lane swapped law anecdotes with fellow ballplayer and attorney-in-waiting Wade Lefler (whose pinch hits would help the Washington Senators to the 1924 pennant). Lane had already successfully tried cases in 1923 and had been appointed a judge in his hometown of Buntyn, Tennessee. 21 By April, Lane was farmed to the Worcester (Massachusetts) Panthers of the Class A Eastern League. 22 There he claimed an infield spot. 23 the book had an interesting premise and plot however it fell flat. some chapters were repetitive and boring. the author wasted a lot of the book’s potential on filler chapters that did nothing for the storyline. moreover, i didn’t mind the OW scenes just because i know they were part of his grieving process, however, i will say that they became bothersome. at the halfway mark hunter was still hooking up with other girls and mistreating marley. like PLS give me something that will redeem this man. also, the fact that this book is inspired by true events is sad because, y’all really be letting men treat y’all like this???? She's in love, he's not, she decides to leave, he realizes he made a mistake and that he loves her (randomly ??) and goes to her, they end up sleeping together and then get together. The story of his dead mother is thrown in there as a justification for everything he does. It literally has no purpose in the plot other than this.

This book was marketed all over TikTok as something COMPLETELY different. This is barely a romance. The author made it seem as if Hunter was going to be some avenging hero for our FMC, after a shitty ex boyfriend. Turns out Hunter was even worse IMO. Marley has titanium balls, seriously! She may have had low self esteem amongst other things because of her parents but she took no crap from Hunter. After everything he did she still fought and I give her props for that #Respect! AGAIN- I have to reiterate- The marketing of this book. I think if it would have been marketed more like an “Ugly Love” by Colleen Hoover, I wouldn’t have had such a visceral reaction to all of the atrocities Hunter commits but because it was marketed(on TikTok by the author) as this great love story, it was so disappointing. The author made it seem(on TikTok) like we were getting this amazing book boyfriend who stands up for our heroine against this awful ex but that’s not what happens. Her whole marketing plan was only derived from the last 20% of the book and seems really manipulative now.

Ratings of Hunter Lane Cafe

James Hunter Lane Sr. died on September 13, 1994, at the age of 94, at his home in Memphis, from heart disease. 36 At the time he was the second-oldest living former Brave behind Tim McNamara. 37 He is buried at the Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis. He was survived by his wife of 67 years, Lucille, and three daughters, Mary, Camille, and Lucille, and his son, James Hunter Lane Jr. Before reading it review: I CANNOT WAIT FOR THIS. as you can see I already gave it five stars I just know it's gonna be insanely good just by the tiktoks the author posted. Also, I call dips on Hunter Lane y'all

Which brings me to another problem I have with this book: Marley. I disliked this character so much! She was not compelling at all, and she was so... bland. Whenever Marley had a problem, she would either run away, or cry. When she called the cops on Hunter for driving drunk... she apologized to him later? And when she had made the decision to leave, Hunter shows up on her doorstep with a half-hearted apology. And she forgives him, on the spot, and then sleeps with him? It felt like Marley was not a person, she was just subject to Hunters whims. In mid-August, he was sent down to the Pittsfield (Massachusetts) Hillies, also in the Eastern League. 28 Lane ended the Eastern League campaign playing in eight games for Worcester and 24 for Pittsfield, with a combined .254 average. 29 Nonetheless, in September the Braves exercised their option on him for 1925. 30

It’s so awful. The author framed it as some deep story about grief and overcoming alcoholism that culminated in some great moral development. It was definitely not that.
