Serious heart problems (symptoms of which include fast or irregular heartbeat) have been reported in patients who have taken too much loperamide, the active ingredient in IMODIUM® Instant Melts. Special warnings about this medicine ¦ This medicine may make you feel dizzy, tired or sleepy. You may feel less alert, feel faint or pass out. If you’re affected do not drive or use machines. ¦ Your body can lose large amounts of fluids and salts when you have diarrhoea. You need to replace the fluid by drinking more liquid than usual.

Occasionally patients with a colostomy (stoma) need a higher dose. Only take a higher dose if your doctor tells you to. Children's doses You should only take this medicine as you need it, following the dosage instructions above carefully. Allergic skin reactions such as itchy, red, raised rash (which can sometimes be severe and include peeling, swelling, blistering and lesions of the skin)

If a doctor prescribes loperamide for your child, they will use their weight or age to work out the right dose. The dose also depends on their symptoms. What if I forget to take it? Loss of consciousness or reduced level of consciousness (passing out, feeling faint or less alert), uncoordinated movements. Obstruction of the bowel, dilation of the bowel, paralysis (non movement) of the bowel muscles which may stop bowel movements If you are pregnant , think you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy: ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

When your digestive system is in its normal rhythm, food and fluid pass regularly from the stomach into the small intestine. Food is then broken down and nutrients are absorbed along with most of the fluid. The remaining waste and some water pass into the colon (large intestine) where more water is absorbed and finally the waste is passed in the form of stools. What happens when you get diarrhoea If any of these applies to you (now or in the past), talk to a doctor or pharmacist. Pregnancy or breast-feeding feeling dizzy – if loperamide makes you feel dizzy when you stand up, try getting up very slowly or stay sitting down until you feel better. If you begin to feel dizzy, lie down so that you do not faint, then sit until you feel better. Avoid driving, cycling, or using tools or machines if you feel dizzy. IMODIUM contains the active ingredient Loperamide. This medication is used to treat sudden diarrhoea (including traveller's diarrhoea). It works by slowing down the movement of the gut. This decreases the number of bowel movements and makes the stool less watery.

If you have ever had a bad reaction to any of the ingredients. For the list of ingredients, see Section 6 ►
