About this deal

Laurent-Perrier has become one of the international leaders in Champagne based entirely on the quality of the wines and core values as a company. Laurent-Perrier is still a family-controlled business and makes nothing other than champagne. The house prides itself on quality and consistency, attributable to having only 3 chefs de caves since 1949. WardrobeMistress1 Perfect celebratory gift A lovely champagne that makes a super gift for family and friends, whatever they are celebrating. Laurent later died in a cellar accident, in 1887, leaving his widow Mathilde Emilie Perrier in charge of the business. Perrier combined her and her late husband’s last names to rename the house Veuve Laurent-Perrier. The de Nonancourt family brought fame and (eventual) fortune to the house.

Laurent-Perrier ( pronounced [lɔ.ʁɑ̃ pɛ.ʁje]) is a Champagne house founded in 1812. It is the main company of the Laurent-Perrier Group, whose other flagship brands include the houses of Salon, De Castellane and Delamotte. [1] Laurent-Perrier Group also acquired Chateau Malakoff as of 2004. [2] With over 1,200 grape growers with supply contracts, Laurent-Perrier exports to more than 120 countries. In 1944, after the liberation of Paris, Bernard de Nonancourt served as a sergeant in the French Army’s 2nd Armored Division. His unit was the first to arrive at the Kehlsteinhaus, Hitler’s “Eagle’s Nest,” in the Bavarian Alps. After blowing their way through a number of armored steel doors, the unit discovered a stash of over 500,000 bottles of wine, including hundreds of cases of first- growth Bordeaux, vintage Champagnes, and aged Cognacs. De Nonancourt was later awarded the Croix de Guerre for his wartime service. De Nonancourt was also a shrewd, hardworking businessman. It was Marie-Louise’s son Bernard de Nonancourt who truly put Laurent-Perrier on the map. He was the heart and soul of the company, transforming the small Champagne House into a global brand. After returning from the French Resistance, Bernard completed an apprenticeship to understand the business as a whole. He worked every job at Laurent-Perrier from cellar and office worker to sales representative, and became truly immersed in the company.

Wine at a glance

After Eugene Laurent died in 1887 his widow, Mathilde, took control and attached her name to the company, changing it to Veuve Laurent-Perrier ( veuve means "widow"). Veuve Mathilde led the company to great success, producing 50,000 cases of Champagne. This success was short-lived, due to the outbreak of World War I. A family business, the Laurent-Perrier house has become a benchmark in Champagne due to the passion and vision of Bernard de Nonancourt. He put all of his energy into the running of the house that his mother acquired in 1939. Following an image that hoisted the Champagne house to the highest levels, his daughters took over the reins of the house following his death in 2010.

In the heart of the three main wine regions of the Marne (Montagne de Reims, Marne Valley and Cote des Blancs), the Laurent-Perrier Champagne House is located in the picturesque village of Tours-Sur-Marnes. A house centred on men and their wines, Laurent-Perrier establishes close relationships with its partner winemakers and makes sure to maintain the style that gives it its grandeur due to its winemakers. The third cellar master in 60 years, Michel Fauconnet, is the gatekeeper of the Laurent-Perrier vintages styles. After the flagship Cuvee Rosé broke new grounds in Champagne, Bernard de Nonancourt continued to break new grounds with this beautiful vintage champagne dedicated to his daughter Alexandra. Only exceptional vintages are deemed worthy of the Grande Cuvee Alexandra Rosé and despite periods of hailstorms during the spring and summer, the 2004 vintage exceeded all expectations. September was dry sunny, and promised quality and quantity, leading to one of the greatest vintages in Champagne in two decades. Bernard de Nonancourt believed nature cannot provide the perfect vintage every year, so, in 1959, he launched Grand Siècle, the brand’s prestige cuvée. Grand Siècle blends base wines from three vintage years and breaks from the regional convention that a house’s most prestigious Champagne should be a vintage wine. Through his passion and innovation, Bernard created the Laurent-Perrier style we know and love today. While keeping to the traditions of Champagne, he brought a breath of fresh air to the House by launching new approaches at both a technical and blending level. In the 1950’s Bernard and the winemaking team made Laurent-Perrier one of the few Champagne Houses to use stainless steel tanks. This option allowed the wine to retain freshness and complex aromas, by keeping the fermentation temperatures low. This change was instrumental in allowing the freshness, elegance and finesse to shine through in their wines. Bernard was also credited for building the first thermo-regulated winery. Relais et Chateau is an international organization which promotes particularly unique hotel and restaurant establishments of which Laurent-Perrier became an official champagne partner in 2001.In 1949, Bernard de Nonancourt became the owner of the company and saw it become one of the largest family-owned Champagne houses. The de Nonancourt family still retains majority ownership of the company. During World War II, both Maurice and Bernard fought occupying German forces in the French Resistance. Maurice, the elder of the two, was captured by the German army and tragically died in a concentration camp. Bernard de Nonancourt was a French war hero. Laurent-Perrier rose to become the world's third best selling champagne brand as of 2005, behind Moët et Chandon and Veuve Clicquot. [1] History [ edit ] Rosé Champagne from Laurent Perrier
