About this deal

There are many reasons to use a changing robe, but chief among them is the convenience that comes with a hands-free option to help you transition between wet or dirty clothes and clean ones. The main other shortcoming of the Dryrobe is that it’s a big bulky thing. Dryrobe has done a good job of keeping the weight down to around 1.3kg but, even still, the Dryrobe Advance will take up a considerable amount of room wherever you choose to store it. Indeed, it’s so large that unless you want to bring it in a large bag of its own, your best bet is to wear the Dryrobe whenever possible. Easy to Carry: Robes with compression straps, or that are easy to fold up, and some even have carry bags. As we're heading into winter (sigh), below we've included both cosy coat options as well as a few lighter towelling styles in case you're heading to warmer climes soon (jel), so you're ready for all seasons. Do I need a changing robe? A changing robe is a big investment, but a good one should last you a lifetime, so if you do decide to take the plunge make sure you've considered the following:

The robe feels like it’s made to a really high spec, and all finishes and trims are of the highest quality. Of course, there are cases where that might be a perk – you could wear it to and from the beach and leave your other clothes at home – but it’s something worth being aware of nonetheless. Unless you opt for a more basic changing robe made from towel alone, which won’t offer the same level of warmth or waterproofing, this is likely a problem you’ll find with most changing robes. The outer layer is also relatively lightweight and the ripstop material looks durable and feels hardwearing. This outer shell is also waterproof and windproof, protecting you from the elements in the cold winter months. Microfiber or towel-lined waterproof changing robes are designed to absorb water and get you dry faster, while fur-lined ones are not as useful for drying off but can keep you warm while you wait to swim or after you dry off. One of the features that set their robes apart is the matching side zippers, which can be found on their leading waterproof long sleeve robes. Their prices are very affordable, and for eco-conscious shoppers, they have changing towels made of 100% recycled polyester materials.

The weather-resistant Dryrobes give you plenty of room for changing, have lots of places to squirrel away items, and are among the most trusted brands. Yes I know they’re not an alternative, but they’re the original DryRobe and they set the bar high. So I felt that it’s only right to show you how they compare to their competitors. This can be one of the more important factors to consider, especially if you intend to be outdoors in colder weather. For anyone living in more temperate climates, this might not be as essential, but it is always good to keep in mind whether you want something that can function as an insulated, warm changing space.

Besides the relatively steep price, however, there’s not much fault I can find in the Dryrobe Advance Long Sleeve, and as such it wins our Recommended award. If you’re looking for a versatile changing robe that will keep you warm and dry wherever you choose to wear it, you can’t go too far wrong with the Dryrobe Advance. If you spend much time out on the water swimming, sailing, or surfing, then you probably know how useful it would be to have a nearby changing space waiting when you get out of the water. The short sleeve robes have the same features, but the arm length is shortened to just below the elbow. SUSTAINABILITY: Charlie McLeod scores very highly on the eco-credentials. With an outer made of 100% recycled and inner 95% recycled PET plastic (GRS certified) – approximately 110 recycled plastic bottles go into every cloak. Using your changing robe is simple — just pop over wet gear after swimming, paddle boarding or surfing and get changed underneath. Then, if you've opted for a parka-style variety, you can stay cocooned inside to stay cosy. This one is pretty easy. If you intend to use your changing robe to dry and change simultaneously, you will want something with microfiber, synthetic wool, or towel fabric. For anyone who knows they will most likely be out in the wind and rain, a waterproof, windproof outer shell is necessary. Did you like the look of the Moonwrap Long Sleeve Changing Robes? Take a look at our list of the features and benefits below. There are two types,' says Rew. ' Microfibre or towelling ones where you dry yourself off, change (neatly avoiding flashing or doing the towel dance) and then take them off. And then there's the big coat variety, which have fleecy linings and waterproof outers, where you can change and then keep them on, creating an individual micro-climate.' Your boss might not be happy when you show up to the Christmas party in the robe. At least you’ll stay warm, hey!

If you find yourself outdoors camping, working, or playing where it is wet and dirty, then the Moonwrap changing robes are perfect. They are one of the warmest on the market, and Frostfire has them in sizes small through extra-large for adults and children. If you don’t know by now, I’m a huge fan of changing robes. They are one of the must have accessories for any outdoor and water sports enthusiasts. And with the quality materials that this changing robe is made with you won’t want to take it off. The robe looks good enough to wear as an oversized coat and I felt comfortable getting a coffee in it after a recent winter surf. People use their robes in all sorts of ways, so all of them are best for something – style, economy, compactness, skin feel, size available or coming in the particular colour you want. They don’t get much better than the DryRobe Advance long sleeve, an option that cannot go wrong, they are made with top quality, recyclable and insulating materials. These robes are also made from recycled materials, so have a small footprint on the earth’s resources. For example, the outer shell is made from 94 plastic bottles and the insulation is 100% recycled polyester yarn. If you have ever found yourself out in nature wishing you had a convenient place to change out of your soaked or grimy clothes, then you already know that a changing robe is something you might need. What To Consider When Buying a Waterproof Changing Robe My only complaint about the comfort offered by the Dryrobe Advance is that its synthetic fleece can feel a little scratchy and itchy. Given that it’s synthetic wool, that’s perhaps not surprising, and the Dryrobe was still very new at the time of writing this review, so I’ll update this section should it become noticeably softer to the touch over time. However, their prices tend to be higher due to the quality, so if you want a cheaper robe for getting in and out of the outdoor pool or changing after a long bike ride, then you would probably do fine with a more affordable product. Seashell Changing Robe Voited have taken a slightly different approach to their changing robes, compared to Gorilla, Vivida and Dryrobe. Instead of the synthetic woolly fleece inner lining, Voited have opted to use different materials depending on its placement and use.

If you are looking for a lightweight towel alternative that’s perfect for summer, you might like to read our blog about the best surf ponchos towels. Why Use Waterproof Changing Robes?Another small gripe is that the Dryrobe has no loop for hanging it on a hook. That means that you’ll have to use a hanger or the hood to hang it up, and the latter results in it hanging much closer to the floor than you might like. That’s quite possibly a deliberate decision because a hanging loop would be an obvious point of failure on such a heavy item of clothing, but again it’s something to keep in mind.
