About this deal

For the average game player, this is a perfect buy. If you’re looking into something for a younger gamer, or are seeking a suitable mobile gaming headset, the ManO’War 7.1’s size make it difficult to recommend in these cases. But those caveats aside, we heartily recommend it.

The 7.1 audio also makes a big difference here, and really opens up the soundstage. The Battlefield 1 beta felt punchy, with plenty of bass present in explosions and gunfire – the balance of the headset makes gaming a joy. Note that because of the software requirement, the 7.1 audio is for PC only. https://resource.razerzone.com/index.php/en/source/audio/mano-war-family/mano-war-7-1/images-111/photography-51 The Audio tab lets you adjust the master volume, as well as turn on and off bass boost, sound normalization, voice clarity, and communication volume. Bass boost can also be adjusted via a slider, and can turned up or down to deliver as much bass as you feel comfortable with, including way too much. At its highest level, the bass pretty much takes over everything, so I kept it to a middling 55, personally. Sound normalization, which smooths out loudness variations, is adjusted by slider when turned on, and the voice clarity feature, which improves communication, is similarly adjustable.I'm not a fan of the ManO'War's general design. This headset is enormous, particularly the huge circular earcups with copious padding and large plastic surrounds. It's approaching the point of being too cumbersome, and it's certainly much larger than more neatly-designed headsets like the Cloud Revolver.

The HyperX Cloud Revolver, for example, uses a ton of padding around the headband as well as a suspension system that makes it more comfortable to wear for extended periods. The Razer ManO'War originally hit the market in 2016 as a premium wireless headset for gamers, complete with LED lighting and virtual 7.1 surround sound. This year, Razer has released a new version of the ManO'War that ditches wireless connectivity bringing the same technology down to a lower price point. The battery life of the headset is rated for up to 14 hours, though this can be extended to 20 by disabling the RGB lighting. The obvious flaw with RGB lighting in a headset is that you can’t see it once you put it on, therefore I’d recommend disabling this. In the real world, the headset lasted over two weeks on a single charge, with about one hour of use per day and the RGB lighting enabled. Should I buy the Razer Man O’War? This makes you walk away from your system while the headset being attached and the sound still playing. But moving at great distance and interference of many layer of walls might cause Razer ManO’War to beep continuously. Thankfully, the Man O’War is set up and configured with the Razer Synapse software, which gives users the power to tweak the sound to their liking, as well as enable the 7.1 virtual surround sound. After calibrating the headset and adjusting the EQ, I was able to get a stronger sound from the Man O’War, with a deeper bass response.Secondly, try to make sure there isn’t a similar issue with the charger either. It is more than possible the charging cable users are powering the headset through might be broken. That’s why it’s recommended you try charging it with another cable and/or on another outlet to confirm this isn’t the case. If neither this nor the previous solution were helpful for you, move on to the ones which we’ve listed below. Voice Clarity: Better not to touch the Presence Level,it makes the sound more robotic in some cases; the Volume Level can be set by preference - it affects how loud the voices are without affecting the quality of the bass and mids (as long as kept inbetween -15 and +15)

Sounds moving from the sides to the front are excellent, and although rear audio channels still feel like they are above my head rather than behind at times, overall I was impressed with the headset in this regard. One other aspect I love: You can configure whether each program runs in 2.0 Stereo or 7.1 virtual surround individually, through Synapse. Want Spotify to output in stereo while playing a game in simulated 7.1? You can do that. While it’s not the best headset out there in terms of raw sound quality, it’s a very well-balanced model that provides an excellent wire-free gaming experience. Verdict The connection strength is by far my favorite feature on the headset, as no matter where I moved to in the room, the connection was perfect. I was even able to move to the room above my test PC and have a connection (albeit unstable), which is something the Corsair Void Wireless couldn’t achieve. At this price point, no. This wired version is compatible with just about everything — PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, mobile devices, or plugging directly into a monitor or speaker’s audio out — making it as versatile as it is high quality. While its size proved to be a limiting factor, your mileage may vary. Certainly, as a mobile headset, the ManO’War 7.1 may be a bit much, but if it’s top-quality sound and mic performance you’re after, we’ve yet to experience a superior alternative. Audio quality seems slightly better than the HyperX Cloud Revolver, though both headsets provide great audio. Razer also provides an equalizer in their Synapse software that makes it very easy to tune the sound profile to your liking, and with some minor tweaks you can make this headset sound even better than its 'flat' profile out of the box.
