Fill in the V55/4 form to register a new vehicle, including new imported vehicles and newly-built (kit) cars. Use form V55/5 for used vehicles Therefore, a closure plate is more for aesthetic reasons – to seal up the base of the chimney cavity where the flue goes up into the chimney. DVLA might need to inspect your vehicle. If your application is approved, DVLA will send you a vehicle log book (V5C). Extra Large stove register plate - up to 1 and 1/3rd m² (comes with 6 clips, and a collar/sweeping trap). Unlike register plates, closure plates do not require access hatches or doors. This is because with a chimney flue liner in place, you won’t need your chimney to be swept. A note on sealing plates

A closure plate is used when a chimney liner, containing flue gases, is present. The closure plate is therefore only required to seal the chimney for cosmetic reasons, to stop soot old soot falling on the stove but also to stop heat disappearing up the chimney and being wasted. If a closure plate developed a fault (e.g.hole) smoke could NOT enter the room as the smoke is contained in a chimney liner. Custom made register plates for unlined chimneys come with a generous access hatch to allow sweeping. The hole for the flue connection comes accurately placed on the plate already and, within reason, can be anywhere on the plate which is especially important where your chimney is not central to your fireplace opening. This gives you a higher degree of freedom when deciding where to place your stove.Send in a photocopy of your photocard driving licence with your application form to prove your identity. As you would expect our custom made register plates have many advantages when compared to off-the-shelf versions:

The clips are simply slid onto the edges of the register plate before it is liften into place. Because they can be moved these clips also mean that it is easier to find a fixing for the plate, especially inside irregular chimneys. Lastly the clips firmly hold the register plate in place also stopping any upward movement of the plate which can happen when, for example, you are sweeping your chimney.

This will obviously depend on where you obtain your liner, but our own Ultraflex flexible liner, manufactured by us in the UK, has the following minimum life expectancies: In addition to a closure plate, you will usually need a sealing plate too (sometimes called a finishing plate). In the image above the register plate is for a large fireplace recess. There is a hole in the middle for the flue pipe and two hatches either side for accessing above the plate to retrieve soot. In smaller fireplaces there may be little room for these hatches and this causes difficulty. It is usually the wisest choice to fit a chimney liner and avoid the need for a closure plate. Instead you can fit a more simple "closure plate" (see lower down in this article). A closure plate does not have to be metal and does not have to have access hatches. Please keep in mind that pallet delivery is available to the kerbside only. Drivers are unable to carry items into the property, across uneven terrain or up steps, so please make provisions to move the appliance or pallet to your preferred storage location on the day of delivery. If your chimney is square or rectangular we will need length and width - less half an inch, to manufacture your chimney register plate. If your chimney is irregular then measure to the narrowest part. Remember to measure at the height where you intend the plate to go. Unless otherwise specified the flue hole will be central to the steel register plate. Many register plates feature small access hatches or doors. These are there to provide access to the chimney cavity so that a chimney sweep can still inspect and sweep your chimney etc. For stoves up to 30kW and burning any fuel the diameter should be a minimum 6inch / 150mm diameter. Defra exempt stoves with a 125mm outlet are able to use a 5inch /125mm diameter flue. How do you fit a wood burner flue? First off, let’s begin by looking at register plates. A register plate is a flat metal sheet that closes off the base of a chimney (it looks a bit like a ceiling above the main fireplace). It’s put in place when you are installing a stove within an existing fireplace. It is strongly recommended that you get a HETAS approved tradesman to install and connect your log burner. The exhaust gases from stoves can be dangerous, due to carbon monoxide, if they leak out into the room, not to mention any risk of fire, so it really is advisable to get it done by a specialist.
