About this deal

It supports both Wide Mode and Spot Mode. In Wide Mode, the range finder automatically detects the subject and follows focus. In Spot Mode, users can manually frame or tap the subject to focus. DJI Transmission also supports automatic frequency hopping between 2.4 GHz, 5.8 GHz, and DFS bands, providing crews with an impressively stable and interference-free remote monitoring experience.

Then there’s the weight; once loaded, the Ronin RS3 Pro, while small, isn’t as lightweight as some of its competition. Attaching the optional side arm does help to add to the comfort, but again compared to the wrist supports and grip design of some other gimbals, the RS3 isn’t quite there. The RS 3 Pro has a larger touchscreen than older models (boasting an increase of 28% on the older RS 2 model). The OLED touchscreen is also brighter than the RS 2’s LCD touchscreen so it’s easier to view and operate in bright light (and it uses less power so you can shoot for longer). The new LiDAR Range Finder (RS) can project 43,200 ranging points within a 14-meter distance. [2]It also features a built-in camera with an equivalent focal length of 30 mm and a wide FOV of 70°, catering to the focusing needs of most scenarios.

We recognize the LiDAR Range Finder is an edge-case accessory, but creators who rely on manual focus lenses may appreciate it. If you're operating a camera solo, taking manual focus off of your plate lets you pay more attention to framing and exposure. It's a neat feature for sure, but a costly one. The Pro edition handles heavier rigs than the standard, up to 10 pounds versus 6.6, and supports a LiDAR focus accessory (more on that later), but aside from that, there aren't too many differences. The RS 3 Pro (right) is bigger than the regular RS 3 (center) or Mini (left)

Expanded DJI RS 3 Pro Combo Key Features:

The Ronin design has come a long way in a short time. DJI’s original single-handed gimbal stabiliser, the Ronin-S, put advanced filmmaking tech in the hands of small production companies and amateurs. With the Ronin RS3 Pro, DJI gives access to filmmaking equipment that can expand with you from being used as a basic gimbal to a full-blow solution for large-budget productions with the addition of the many accessories available. The performance of the Ronin RS3 Pro in isolation is excellent. Other manufacturers don’t, as yet, match the build quality; the fact that it will equally easily balance a Sony A7 III or Sony FX6 without issue means plenty of scope for all levels. With multiple operation modes for using the DJI RS 3 Pro, handling your gimbal is both flexible and intuitive. These modes include support for Transportation and Storage as well as Vertical Shooting, Briefcase Mode for holding your gimbal close and Underslung Mode for getting low to the ground. How is the briefcase handle used? The DJI LiDAR Range Finder (RS) uses Ronin 4D’s acclaimed LiDAR focusing technology. Compared with conventional focusing technology, the LiDAR focusing system does not need to rely on the surface texture of the subject. This is especially useful in low-light environments or complicated scenarios with multiple subjects and results in exceptionally stable focus. As with previous Ronin’s, the main gimbal is only part of the story. As a stand-alone product, it’s good, adds the optional accessories, and the Ronin RS3 Pro transforms into an essential filmmaking tool that can be used on any production size.

The included gimbal mode switch also allows users to alternate between Pan follow, Pan and Tilt follow, and FPV modes at the touch of a button. The FPV mode selection can also be adjusted to 3D Roll 360, Portrait, or Custom, for a fully customisable experience.

The RS 3 Pro’s new Mode switch provides a more ergonomic way of changing the gimbal’s shooting modes. (Image credit: George Cairns) Don't get us wrong, the LiDAR focus system is cool and the carbon fiber construction is a nice touch, but unless you need to take advantage of those extras, or the RS 3 Pro's 10-pound payload capacity, the regular RS 3 makes more sense, retaining our Editors' Choice award.
