Water manipulation/Hydrokinesis: Chelsea can control and manipulate water at will. It is unclear however if her powers will remain in her human form. Upon bearing witness to Talleigha's blatant example of poor sportsmanship, Brooklyn declares the Power-Off over and swims away with the sisters before any protests about her decision can be made. During the competition the next day, Malibu is still unable to summon power, and does not get off to a good start until Brooklyn volunteers her help. Brooklyn also witnesses Finn and Sareena's awakenings of Earth and Water powers, respectively, but then, she learns that from Sareena and Malibu's translations of Viva the vaquita's language that Aquaryah and Chelsea have been kidnapped. The movie involves the Barbies, Skipper, Stacie, and Chelsea turning into mermaids when they're summoned by Isla to the underwater world of Pacifica. They're asked to take part in a competition that's all about determining who gets special elemental powers. Of course, they have to deal with enemies old and new with their own plans. I'm not going to sugarcoat it. Among the Barbie movies I've seen, this is my favorite. It manages to be epic and inspirational at the same time. It has positive messages about looking out for each other and finding the power within yourself to save the day. Environmentalism also plays a part here. Let's break this movie down. The sweet, funny, and clever youngest sister, Chelsea is very girly and cute, but rather clever and smart for her age, and also a bit sarcastic. Like Stacie, she is outgoing and makes friends easily. As a typical seven-year-old, her obsession with mermaids is why she insisted on becoming one with Malibu and Brooklyn and did not want to miss out. However, when Coralia welcomes the chosen contestants at the opening ceremony, three of the merpeople, Finn Aquavilla, Talleigha Fishtail, and Sareena Seasquid, do not take kindly to "land dwellers", as they call them, invading their inner sanctum, because they believe that humans are the cause of many problems faced in the ocean. Isla, however, believes that bringing humans into Pacifica will solve their current problems, while Coralia shares her point of view.Skipper's appearance here is the same as in Dreamhouse Adventures, It Takes Two, and other movies. She has dark brown hair streaked with dark purple color in the front. Her eyes are a soft blue, and she wears a bikini composed of a pastel lavender top and a pair of two-toned pastel blue-and-lavender shorts. The second youngest sister, Stacie is a fun and goofy ball of energy. Strong and athletic, she loves to be constantly moving and loves active games. Malibu tries to convince Marlo that there is more to being a mermaid than she knows, and pleads with Marlo to help free her as Marlo is trying to retrieve a tiara lodged near a wall. Once she retrieves the tiara, Marlo is reminded of her grandmother's words regarding the tiara and places it on Malibu's head, fully awakening Malibu's Water powers and allowing her to free herself and blast them an exit out of Marlo's vessel. Malibu and Marlo then meet up with the other merpeople at the island of trash. When they arrive, they are later joined by Chelsea and Aquaryah, who escaped from Marlo's grasp earlier. As Malibu and Brooklyn are engaged in their practice session, Brooklyn tries to console Malibu about being unable to summon any power, when Aquaryah offers to teach them how to summon power. As Brooklyn is training with Aquaryah, she begins to develop Fire powers, but finds she has no control over them. Just then, Finn arrives and attempts to dissuade his sister from helping Brooklyn and Malibu, but Aquaryah argues that she is capable of handling herself. On this note, as Brooklyn watches, Skipper's rage gets the better of her and she awakens Air powers, using them on Finn and being congratulated by Aquaryah for her discovery. Her hair is a vivid cerulean blue. Her tail ombres from blue-violet to light blue. She wears a pink top, complete with a pink sash worn as a belt around her tail. This movie is the first time the main Barbie character has has a blue theme as rather than pink or purple since Barbie of Swan Lake and Barbie as the Island Princess. Aquatic animal communication: With the gift of the power of water, Malibu can communicate with aquatic animals whilst no other mermaid/merman can do. This is seen where she communicates with a narwhal.
