About this deal

LP: “It’s political, man! We used the chorus for ‘Matchbox.’ That was one where we just cut it up. It was like, ‘Here’s my section, here’s your section…’” The reissue contains four alternate versions of ‘Seaside’, ‘Ooh La’, ‘She Moves In Her Own Way’ and ‘Naïve’. ‘Naïve’ is still probably one of the most iconic singles released by any British band, it has amassed over 1.3 billion streams on Spotify. The alternate version of ‘Naïve’ still has the catchiness that the original has, something that could never be lost in years to come. As said in the literature that came with the LP, Inside In / Inside Out ‘perfectly captured the petulant urgency of adolescence.’ Kev Kharas (26 January 2006). "The Kooks – Inside In/Inside Out". Drowned in Sound. Archived from the original on 10 October 2012 . Retrieved 1 March 2012. HH: “That came off a tape that I found. I always knew I had our first-ever tape and I’d put it somewhere really safe. It’s got the guys on it abusing me for being on holiday and not at band practice, and then it’s got all these other songs on it, the first-ever set of Kooks songs, and no one had heard it or digitalized it until this release. I thought I’d lost it. It was in my old school briefcase with all my old schoolbooks.” The Kooks are Hunky Dory". Gigwise. Archived from the original on 15 April 2021 . Retrieved 29 September 2009.

Out today, the release is coupled with a nostalgic visual for " She Moves In Her Own Way" featuring unseen footage from the iconic music video in 2008, directed by Diane Martel (The Killers, The 1975, The White Stripes). The new video shows a fresh band from Brighton celebrating their successful debut album on the road; a wholesome time capsule that is reminiscent of an unforgettable era in pop culture for British Indie bands. Watch here. LP: “It’s basically three songs put together. Max had written something and then I’d written something and then we kind of stitched them together. We were experimenting with a lot of writing like that, where we wanted to have multiple genres in a song. I always see The Kooks as kind of, especially on our first album, prog pop. We were definitely trying to do things that shouldn’t have worked. We wanted to do it Abbey Road-style: ‘Let’s take 30 seconds of your song, 30 seconds of my song…’ We worked on the lyrics to make it make sense, but it was quite psychedelic.” HH: “I think it ended up being used as a B-side for something. I think the issue people had with this one was that it didn’t quite take off in the choruses. It had a very Police-y thing to it, which was already being represented in other songs. It’s so much a part of our story. That song was on every set list for the first few years of the band.”LP: “‘Ooh La’ was really where a maturity was coming into the songwriting. I wrote that in the studio, so it might be the last thing I’d written for the album. There was a real depth to it. I felt like I was really saying something and connecting. There’s a real melancholy fear to it. It’s eerie. On a lot of the songs, everyone was fighting to put their musicality in, but on this, Hugh waits till the end. He comes in with this insane guitar sound, but it’s basically very, very minimal.” Hasty, Katie (31 January 2007). "The Kooks". Billboard. Prometheus Global Media . Retrieved 28 November 2016. The Kooks have enjoyed an impressive rise to fame since the release of their debut album, which reached Number One in the U.K. Album Charts. Since then, they've gone on to release four further albums with their most recent 'Let's Go Sunshine' achieving top ten status in the U.K. Album Charts in 2018. Alongside a new breed of fans, the band have gained countless streams across multiple platforms and embarked on a number of world tours, including a sold-out U.K. arena tour. THE KOOKS RELEASE 15TH ANNIVERSARY REISSUE OF 'INSIDE IN / INSIDE OUT' - OUT TODAY VIA VIRGIN RECORDS / UME In a later interview with NME, Pritchard thanked the Arctic Monkeys for "shielding" The Kooks from the press' scrutiny:

Moore, Sam (21 May 2021). "The Kooks announce 'Inside In/Inside Out' 15th anniversary UK tour". NME . Retrieved 2 August 2022. Marc Hogan (22 February 2006). "The Kooks: Inside In/Inside Out". Pitchfork . Retrieved 1 March 2012. HH: “The ethos of the band is really at play in that song, because it’s got such an open-door policy to different styles and ideas. I was playing ska, reggae… There’s a freedom to it.”HH: “It gave you permission to lose your shit, that song. On that solo, Luke and Max decided to bombard me with missiles. Anything you could find in the studio came flying at me.” Ultratop.be – The Kooks – Inside In / Inside Out" (in Dutch). Hung Medien. Retrieved 24 September 2014.
