About this deal

Akadama, or Japanese Red Clay, is a special kind of mineral-rich volcanic clay found in parts of Japan. Bentonite has the property of adsorbing relatively large amounts of protein molecules from aqueous solutions. Consequently, bentonite is uniquely useful in the process of winemaking, where it is used to remove excessive amounts of protein from white wines. Were it not for this use of bentonite, many or most white wines would precipitate undesirable flocculent clouds or hazes upon exposure to warm temperatures, as these proteins denature. It also has the incidental use of inducing more rapid clarification of both red and white wines. [29] Chang, Y; Hocheng, H (June 2001). "The flowability of bentonite bonded green molding sand". Journal of Materials Processing Technology. 113 (1–3): 238–244. doi: 10.1016/S0924-0136(01)00639-2. Bentonite usually forms from the weathering of volcanic ash in seawater, or by hydrothermal circulation through the porosity of volcanic ash beds, [3] [4] which converts ( devitrification) the volcanic glass ( obsidian, rhyolite, dacite) present in the ash into clay minerals. In the mineral alteration process, a large fraction (up to 40-50 wt.%) of amorphous silica is dissolved and leached away, leaving the bentonite deposit in place. However, a 2022 study suggests that the effectiveness of clays, including bentonite, to bind to various toxins in animal feed may depend on the type of toxin. You don’t usually need help to clean out your body. Your kidneys and liver already do that. The fiber from fruits and vegetables also helps. Theng, B.K.G. 1979. Formation and Properties of Clay Polymer Complexes. Developments in Soil Science 9. Skin. Bentonite clay works like a sponge on your skin. It absorbs dirt and oil, like sebum. Too much sebum can lead to acne. The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties may help your skin heal. People should not consume bentonite clay without speaking with a healthcare professional first. Healthcare professionals will be able to recommend the correct dosage and frequency of consuming bentonite to rid the body of toxins.a b McLeod, Sue (March 2020). "Techno File: Bentonite". The researchers also tested a sodium bentonite clay on computational, in vivo, and in vitro models, suggesting it may offer a method to combat emergencies, such as an outbreak of acute aflatoxicosis.

Bentonite application also influenced the prices that farmers received for their crops. Production costs are higher, but due to higher production and the quality of the food, clay farmers could afford to invest and grow more and better food, compared to nonclay-using farmers. [40] [41] Bentonite slurry walls in modern construction [ edit ] Bentonites are used for decolorizing various mineral, vegetable, and animal oils. They are also used for clarifying wine, liquor, cider, beer, mead, and vinegar. [11] People have eaten bentonite clay or put it on their skin for thousands of years. It’s been used to: Akadama should make up no more than one-quarter to one-third of the total substrate mix, as it can become too saturated if used in large amounts. Much of bentonite's usefulness in the drilling and geotechnical engineering industry comes from its unique rheological properties. Relatively small quantities of bentonite suspended in water form a viscous, shear-thinning material. Most often, bentonite suspensions are also thixotropic, [24] although rare cases of rheopectic behavior have also been reported. [25] At high enough concentrations (about 60grams of bentonite per litre of suspension, ~6wt.%), bentonite suspensions begin to take on the characteristics of a gel (a fluid with a minimum yield strength required to make it move). Digestion. Some animal studies show bentonite might boost good bacteria in the gut. This may help with taking in nutrients. In humans, bentonite is sometimes used to treat occasional or ongoing diarrhea. One study showed bentonite helped with constipation from irritable bowel syndrome ( IBS). More research is needed.
