The on-board pump won't turn on from the control panel and just beeps, so I'm guessing it's being bypassed somehow.

I have read posts about the hose where it fits onto the spigot becomes loose or adrift, but surely this shouldn't happen on two new assemblies or is a problem with the caravan system? To me my caravan is of high enough value, it's well being is never going to be reliant on a standalone pressure reducing valve. Every now & then, I have leaking 'O' rings on my water system at work. I put a blob of Petroleum jelly around the 'O' rings and reconnect and all is fine for a few months. I've been doing this on the same 'O' rings for over 20 years. The equipment is subject to high usage every working day, probably used more in a day, than most caravan water pumps get plugged in and out in their lifetime.I would echo John19's comment " Others would have to make their own judgement on the condition of their caravan pipework".
