About this deal

One of the standout features of the Diamond 12.3 speakers is their ability to create an immersive soundstage. They excel at projecting a wide, three-dimensional audio landscape that envelops the listener. And the precise imaging ensures that each instrument and voice is accurately placed within the soundstage, providing a realistic and engaging listening experience. Bass performance and low-end extension The Crossover network uses an acoustic Lkr 24db topology. This includes air core inductors of the type that occurs more often in high-end speakers, which have been selected because they produce the lowest distortion of all inductor types. Because the resistance of the coil is higher than a standard laminated sampling or ferrite core inductor, the magnetic structure of the MID / BASS driver is modified to compensate, resulting in a fast, clean bass without distortion by the inductor. Wide soundstage and accurate imaging: The Diamond 12.3 creates an immersive, three-dimensional audio landscape that envelops the listener. After playing a wide variety of CDs I felt a need to add in I Ohm resistors to reduce treble a little, since it was too obvious. This gave a more integrated sound, high frequencies not standing out as if a separate entity. It also gave me a different view: now the 12.3s were moving into being a dryly accurate reference loudspeaker which, at the price, is quite extraordinary. There was nothing amiss, just great insight and a nice wide, stable stereo stage with well hewn images on it.Very correct and impressive in being so. Ideal for medium-sized rooms, the Wharfedale Diamond 12.3 offers the deep, powerful sound you'd expect from floorstanding speakers while keeping the overall dimensions relatively compact. Using a second, dedicated bass woofer, the Diamond 12.3 punches hard. Not only does this second woofer unit increase the depth and volume of bass, it also helps to 'fill out' the sound at lower volumes, making this an ideal speaker for use at all volume levels.

HP 840 G3 laptop, VPI Prime Scout turntable, Pioneer Elite DV-79AVi SACD/CD player, Pioneer Elite BDP-95FD Blu-Ray player, and a Sony DVP-NC555ES SACD/CD player. Rear-firing bass port requires space: The speakers need some room behind them for proper airflow, which might be a limitation in some setups. It’s always fun to see new iterations of tried and tested ranges, and the new Diamond 12.3 speakers from the indomitable Wharfedale are no exception. They’ve been making speakers since well before I was born, and with that sort of experience I’m very eager to find out how this new set of speakers sound. For the drivers, Wharfedale opted for a woven Kevlar cone for the midrange and bass, while the treble driver features a fabric dome. These materials contribute to the speakers’ excellent performance across the frequency spectrum. Speaker configuration and driver technology Please note that our couriers will try to deliver as arranged but we will not be held responsible for any costs incurred because of non-delivery or factors introduced by third-parties. This service is based upon best endeavour and is not guaranteed.Though different floorstanding speakers may look alike, they can vary in their design, construction and quality of materials—all factors which can affect how they sound and how long they last. Let’s drill down on some specifics: Aesthetic features and available finishes The Diamond 12.3 is a three-way speaker, meaning it has separate drivers for bass, midrange, and treble ( related: 2-Way vs 3-Way Speakers Demystified). This configuration allows for a more accurate reproduction of audio, as each driver can focus on a specific frequency range.

Configured in a 2.5-way system with exceptional crossover technology, the diamond uses 12.3 double 130 mm (5 ") Klarity Tm Drivers for impressive but refined central and bass frequencies, while the 25 mm (1 ") DOME tweeter an open and smoothly extended high frequencies. Helpfully the base/feet are pre-fitted out of the box and come with optional spikes if you’re using them on carpet, easily adjusted to balance them out as needed. I therefore have them set up in a matter of moments, and for testing I’ve used the brand new Cambridge Audio Evo 150 with Tidal as my source, so with that all out of the way let’s find out what these sound like. At the rear, like every other model in the range, the 12.3s have two sets of terminals for bi-wiring, with metal straps for non-bi-wired set-ups.The SW-10 subwoofer is available in matching wood finishes with the same polished baffle housing a single front-facing 25cm long-throw driver. Hidden at the rear are physical controls for level, phase and auto-sense (the sub comes out of standby when a signal is received), as well as two RCA inputs. At 42cm high, it is by no means tiny but, unusually for a sub, it is so well integrated both sonically and physically into the rest of the system, delivering a tuneful performance that belies its size, that it's one of the many high points of the system. In the vast majority of cases we will not be able to install the cabinet doors to built-in laundry products as the fittings very rarely match up. We will try our best however if we are unable to do this we will still install connect to plumbing and put the appliance in situ.

Please note: TV and larger floorstanding speaker deliveries are not available to Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Scottish Islands, and Channel Islands. Volume and crossover controls tailor the sound for just the right level of bass for your room. They also ensure that the sub is perfectly matched to your existing speakers. Switchable phase control means that the sub can be placed behind you and still work in harmony with the front speakers. The DIAMOND 12.3’s rear-ported enclosure is precisely sized so that the internal volume works in harmony with the drive unit system to deliver the desired sonic result. A multi-layered sandwich design subdues the identifiable characteristics of the cabinet’s ‘sound’. Even the resonant properties of the glue between the layers was measured to determine the optimum combination. Brace yourself

In comparison, the Q Acoustics 3050i delivers a different but equally competent interpretation with a touch of additional fluidity and spaciousness; but overall, we find that the Diamonds have a slightly more precise and tactile performance and are particularly well suited for a system used as much for music as movies. Wharfedale has carefully designed this crossover using high-quality components, such as air-core inductors and polypropylene capacitors. This attention to detail contributes to the speakers’ exceptional audio performance. Summary

them household names in the audio world. If the name Karl-Heinz Fink didn’t pop into your mind alongside The benefit of a small bass/mid unit is well controlled behaviour up to the point of crossover to the tweeter. This smoothes out and civilises vocals, removing the roughness that seeps in from cone breakup.Wharfedale’s small 130mm Klarity cone in the 12.3 hands over to a standard-size I in (25mm) tweeter that, they say, “is made from a woven polyester film with a high loss coating”.The “loss’ bit refers to losing energy from resonance by the use of a damping layer. The Diamond 12.3 speakers offer a well-balanced treble that’s smooth and detailed without becoming harsh or fatiguing. High-frequency details, such as cymbal crashes and delicate string harmonics, are reproduced with precision and sparkle, adding an extra layer of realism to your listening experience.
