The crossfader is reasonably loose but can be switched for an Innofader easily if required for better scratch performance. There is a switch for smooth or sharp crossfader curve. The mic channel is XLR only, with two-band EQ and a level control, and the mic connects on the top panel. There are separate output pots for master volume and booth, and as well as master (XLR only) and booth/record outputs (both RCA), there are RCAs for an FX send/return loop for plugging in an external FX unit, for which there is an on/off switch on the top panel. However, this would then covers the whole throughput; you can’t select which channel it is to work on. Metering is handled by a pair of nine part LEDs — five green, three amber, and a single red one. From a master perspective, they operate post-everything, but when cue is engaged per channel they become post-input, post-EQ, but pre-filter, which means that you can’t cue filters in your ears, which would have been nice. FILTERS The components (ie knobs) feel robust. The link of a recording to the laptop is extremely easy to set up and use. Something to note — despite being plenty of space inside the chassis, the power supply is external. So be ready to lug around (well relatively anyway) another wall wart in you. BUT IS IT A SCRATCH MIXER? The three-band EQ range is kill to +8dB which for the target market is ideal, and sees the mid EQ doing most of the work. Strangely there is no EQ gain knob, but then you remember that each input has its own gain. So it’s not wrong — it’s just different.

The main mix output and mic input are on professional standard balanced XLRs, and there is a dedicated record output. This is where we need to talk about the difference between two channel mixers and scratch mixers. There is an assumption that two channels = scratch. This is quite wrong, and the xone:23 typifies this perfectly. I wasn’t sure where A&H was going when I started playing with the xone:23. But once I’d worked through some of the things that didn’t add up from a scratch DJ perspective, it became clear that this wasn’t trying to please that small sector of the market, but was aiming at delivering a cost-effective slice of A&H to a wider audience. Once an absolute staple of any DJ’s gear alongside whatever turntables he or she could afford, it’s kind of fallen by the wayside for many people in this digital/controller-led world. For a two channel mixer, the xone:23 is very well equipped. 2+2 channels, a great filter system, a S&R loop, and well specced outputs makes this a beast. Also there is a x link feature it seem that is to connect with produces that have not been announced. Already partly covered above, let’s see what A&H have built into the xone:23. You get line/phono RCAs per channel, both with input level controls. There are balanced master XLRs and unbalanced RCAs booth outputs, both with dedicated volume controls, and a separate RCA output for hooking up a recording device. On the faceplate, there’s an unpowered XLR mic input, with gain plus hi/lo EQ. I’m not 100% happy with the location, but that’s a personal preference. Essentially, the xone:23 pretty well specced for a simple mixer.

Internal: You may transfer the Software to an alternative system. After the transfer, You must completely remove the Software from the former system. Nothing else has functionally changed on the Xone:23, but there are some worthy features worth reiterating. The VCA channel faders and VCF filter system with high-pass and low-pass filters are based on the same circuitry as the rest of the Xone series, although the Xone:23 doesn’t have the band-pass filter option that the Xone:DB4 has.

Xone 23 features a dedicated send and return FX loop which enables you to connect your favourite effects processor while a dedicated record output allows you to record your mixes directly to an external recording device or audio interface for recording directly to your laptop. The primary mix output and microphone input both feature a balanced XLR connection, the microphone input comes with its own dedicated 2-band EQ as well as a microphone level control. At the heart of the Xone:23 mixer is the legendary Xone VCF filter system which gives you high-pass and low-pass filter options with ‘mild to wild’ resonance control as well as a frequency sweep control that ranges from 20 Hz – 20 kHz; the filter can also be routed to both channels as well as the FX return. The two stereo channels come with independent level controls for each input and allow up to four stereo audio sources to be connected at any one time as well as be simultaneously routed to the overall mix.Between the faders are knobs and buttons that control the Xone filter. There are two buttons that choose between high-pass and low-pass filter shapes.
