Contrary to people's expectations, this is not the first time Buzz is played by an actor other than Tim Allen. The list includes: The Silent Runner is a Class C ship, so you will have to upgrade your Piloting skill to level four before you can tame this beast. Zurg's identity as an alternate future's Buzz trying to meddle in his past self's time period recalls the Evil Buzz Lightyear that occupied Zurg's Evil Emperor role in his home universe. Additionally, a future version of Buzz appeared in an episode of Star Command. In the 3DS version, he appears on a game board where the player must start up the shield generators and beat Zurg. He also a character is faced off against in the adventure games.
Buzz resolves to have the Patrol wear the other uniforms and use the stealth mode to get out while he and Sox leave via the spaceship. The plan works, but Buzz forgets to tell them that stealth mode is limited energy and the whole group is forced to escape onto the space ship and fly out of the hangar. They avert the insects as well as another space ship that tries to shoot them down; during this time, it is revealed that Izzy suffers from astrophobia, the fear of space, which would technically ban her from being a ranger. Buzz and the crew manage to safely land the ship, but they blow out a fuel cell. Izzy directs the group to a nearby mining facility to get a spare part. It was revealed on Lee Unkrich's now defunct Formspring that this was a different Zurg than the one in Toy Story 2. When Buzz talked about the technology the Future Buzz used, he thought that his future self created it, but the Future Buzz claimed that it is "borrowed". What this means is currently unknown. It is possible that an unseen provider had give him the machines and armor, or that the Future Buzz had indeed found it in space at some point in the future. Given that the machines says "Zurg" it is possible that the actual Zurg created them, but left them stranded in space for unknown reasons, and this also means that the real Zurg remains out there.
Who voices Zurg?
In a second post-credits scene, the Zurg armor floats through space after the explosion, and the eyes of the suit light up, indicating he survived. Zurg is mentioned by a brainwashed Buzz Lightyear (as Lotso had earlier reset him to Demo Mode), as he sees Andy's toys as minions of Zurg, and is mentioned briefly by Andy when he gives Buzz to Bonnie Anderson. Zurg himself makes a brief appearance in the end credits of Toy Story 3, where he is shown being donated to Sunnyside Daycare in a box along with a dinosaur, a giraffe plush, and two Fisher-Price Little People. He is helped down to the floor by Stretch and meets Barbie and Ken who welcome him to a new cool and groovy Sunnyside, of which the two are leaders. It is unknown what actually happened to his ion blaster unless it was lost by his previous owner. It is also unknown whether he thinks he's the "real" Zurg or if he already knows that he's just a toy. He is later seen doing the robot dance during the song " We Belong Together". Zurg's character may appear to draw from Darth Vader, a main villain in the Star Wars original trilogy, with a similar voice, appearance, and set of mannerisms. A notable difference between the two, however, is that Zurg, as implied by his title, acted as absolute ruler, while Darth Vader merely acted as the enforcer of the Galactic Empire and the second in command to Empire's actual ruler, Palpatine.
