About this deal

The game concludes under one of two conditions: either all active companies on the board reach a secure size of 11 or more, or a single company has 41 tiles. Shareholders receive their shareholder bonus payouts for the shares they hold, followed by a universal sale of shares. The player with the most money is the victor. In 1976, the 3M game division was sold to Avalon Hill and Acquire became part of their bookcase game series. Four years later, Avalon Hill published the computer game Computer Acquire for the PET, Apple II and TRS-80. [2] Example of Acquire game play, Wizards of the Coast edition Mergers happen when someone places a tile that connects two or more companies together. The larger entity, indicated by having more connected tiles, will assume control of the smaller one. Shareholders of the smaller company can choose to either sell a portion of their shares or opt for a 2-for-1 share exchange with the larger company, or keep their shares in case the company gets founded again.

Has received several awards including being inducted into the Academy of Adventure Gaming Arts & Design Hall of Fame in 1989. If you haven’t played it before, you may soon get a chance, as Acquire will see its first new edition since 2016 later this year. This booklet goes a long way to helping new players learn and understand the game of ACQUIRE. It is just a shame that they didn't give this much attention to the rest of the game. Hasbro has fully illustrated and explained how to play the game of ACQUIRE in this booklet but you still can't see the board or decipher the tiles.Guests will be allowed to participate in all Side Events (Open Gaming, Game Library, Exhibitor Hall, Ceremonies, etc.) Guests are NOT permitted to participate in any of the 16 Ring Games, or ORG Games (Outer Ring Games). In the following paragraphs I will outline the good with the bad. There is a lot more bad than good. I will also include photos that are not professional but, at a minimum, they will give you a closer look at the game. Dated 1995 Large box cardboard edition with chipboard board and tiles, Special Powers Variant Tiles inspired by German editions Dated 1976 plastic tiles, yellow hard plastic board, redesigned money, no inner box (This edition was also produced in 1977, 79, 81, 82, & 86) In 1937, he entered City College of New York, from which he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. He became a professionally licensed civil engineer . Among other projects, he worked on the battleship Missouri, the aircraft carrier Yorktown, the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, and the World Trade Center.

MEGAcquire increases the size of the game of ACQUIRE. With the hexagon configuration of the playing tiles, MEGAcquire also heightens the level of strategy. Opportunities to create, merge, and grow companies are 50% more likely for each tile, compared to the traditional square shape (six chances to connect instead of four). The size of the board and the number of available companies allows for an ebb and flow of power throughout the game. In the traditional game of ACQUIRE, a company is safe when it attains 11 tiles. Hasbro has decided to change that number to 10 in this edition. In the traditional game of ACQUIRE, one particular price point of a companies worth during game play is the range of 6-10 tiles. Then once the company became safe the price range was 11-20 tiles. The pattern continued until the size of the company went to 41 & Over.

Computer Acquire

The first commercially-produced version was produced by 3M Company in 1962 and sold over 500 million copies worldwide since then. Plastic board, building tiles, and headquarters! Updated board size, 9x12 space grid with space designations printed on the board. Michael made the suggestion early on that manufacturing possibilities allowed the tiles to be in a different shape other than square. His first suggestion was a hexagon. It was a beautiful idea that allowed connection on all sides of the tile. The final result has allowed the makeup of the board during game play to achieve some very interesting results.

Eskin, Blake, “Sold Separately,” The New Yorker, January 20, 2003, http://www.newyorker.com/printables/talk/030120ta_talk_eskin (accessed 1/4/2007). The artwork design is similar to what Hasbro used in the 1999 edition, unimaginative. The artwork on these cards is actually non existent other than the simple names of the corporations which are also unimaginative. A player during their turn may declare the game at an end if the largest chain exceeds a specified size (about 40% of the board), or all chains on the board are too large to be acquired. When the game ends, shareholder bonuses Based on that description, you might get the impression that Acquire is the perfect game, but it isn’t. No game is perfect, and Acquire isn’t an exception here. Before play begins, the players must decide whether the numbers of players' shares will be public or private information. Keeping this information private can greatly extend the game since players will be less certain of their status, and therefore less willing to end the game.

Hasbro decided to reconfigure the range as 6-7 tiles, then 8-17, 18-27, 28-37, & 38 & Over, which makes the processing of information and flow of the overall game more cumbersome. This reconfiguration doesn't even allow for a price increase when a company becomes safe. This is one of those areas where I feel like design decisions are being made by people who have never played the game of ACQUIRE. As much as Hasbro thinks that adding the Third Majority is going to "spread the wealth" in the game of ACQUIRE, it actually adds more wealth to those players who get the "early jump." Since the First Majority amounts remained the same in this edition as in earlier editions, it would appear that the players who hold Second Majority will gain more wealth than in previous editions. However, if there is a tie for First and Second Majority, then both players benefit from the extra amount. The compensation to this effect is that there can be a third player that gets the traditional amount of a Second Majority. Once the player has determined what tile they are looking at, they now look at the board to see that they can't see where they are supposed to play the tile because the board has illegible square designations. At least Hasbro made the board smaller (100 squares as opposed to 108 - 1-A thru 10-J) so that the 10 x 10 grid allows the seasoned ACQUIRE player the ability to count the squares to figure out where their tile can be played. What a frustrating way to play a game. Games should be fun not frustrating. I hope I have provided enough information so that you can make an informed decision on whether you too want to waste your money on the 2016 Hasbro game of ACQUIRE.
