About this deal

It's wonderful to have my FT8 and other data modes so automated. I had been running older rigs, without CAT, for FT8 and sometimes forgetting to select a new band when switching frequencies. Now, running the FT-891, I'm really automated for band changing. Most issues that people list as problems can be worked around with tools or updating your operating skills with operation time. Integration with a computer works very well, but it would have been nicer if the audio could have been included to reduce the cable complexity. To save weight, my preferred power supply in the field is usually a lithium battery designed to jump start smaller engined cars. This versatile 12V battery also supplies 5V USB power to phones and tablets, and can even charge laptops. In Conclusion TCXO provides ±0.5 ppm High frequency stability (-10°C to +50°C) Stable 100 Watt Output The FT-891 provides stable 100 Watts (25W AM) of high power output. High reliability is assured by the transmitters careful circuit design with efficient thermostatically-controlled Dual internal fans and the die cast heat transferring chassis. 32-Bit IF DSP Provides effective and optimized QRM rejection The 32 bit high speed floating Point DSP (max 3000 MIPS) provides effective cancellation/reduction (DNR) of the random noise that is frequently frustrating while on the HF bands. The highly optimized AUTO NOTCH (DNF) automatically eliminates dominant beat tones, and the CONTOUR, and the APF, are very effective receiver noise reduction tools during HF band operations. USB Connection A native USB connection supports PC connectivity with a single cable, allowing for full rig control via a virtual serial port connection (VCP). Features for Ease of Operation • Large diameter Main Tuning Dial (1.6” / 41mm) with Torque adjustment

I love the audio from the FT-891 it sounds so much better than my IC-7300 which is fatiguing to listen to after a while, it seems to have a high noise floor and harshness to the audio and yes NR does help but on the 891 I don’t need to use the NR like I do on the 7300. The filters on the 891 are better too with less bleed over from closer stronger stations and I don’t notice any overloading at all compared to the 7300 which means I have to always play with the RF gain.Improvements in DSP over the FT-450D are huge. The noise reduction actually works very well, with less tweaking. It is a welcome change. Some may complain that Yaesu's implementation of DNR is a bit watery-sounding, but I find a little DSP SFT (shift), and proper RF/AF gain removes most of the bubbling. I like it.

PTT Method should be set to RTS, and the Port changed to the COM port for the Standard COM port in device manager. HamRadio 2.0 praised the large display and usability of the Yaesu FT-891, as well as its digital signal processing and filtering capabilities. He criticized the high retail price of the unit, but it’s important to note that the retail cost of this radio has decreased significantly since his initial review. The FT-891 provides a stable 100 W (25 W AM) high power output. High reliability is assured by the transmitter careful circuit design with efficient thermostatically-controlled dual internal fans and the diecast chassis. Can get hot – When transmitting at more than 70 watts for a prolonged period of time, the radio tends to heat up quite a bit. The 32 bit high speed floating Point DSP (max 3000 MIPS) provides effective cancellation/reduction (DNR) of the random noise that is frequently frustrating while on the HF bands. The highly optimized AUTO NOTCH (DNF) automatically eliminates dominant beat tones, and the CONTOUR, and the APF, are very effective receiver noise reduction tools during HF band operations.Menu items for power are under the TX GNRL section, items 16-01 thru 16-06. You must know what power setting to manipulate for the given mode/frequency you wish to change. Menu Number
