About this deal

This Limoncello Tiramisu recipe has all of the traditional components of a classic tiramisu recipe, but is spiked with limoncello and lots of lemon flavors. This is the perfect dessert to make during the warmer months when you are craving those bright citrus notes. Make-Ahead Limoncello Tiramisu Taste and quality can vary tremendously from producer to producer and from bottle to bottle. Bad limoncello tastes like window cleaner; good limoncello tastes pure and invigorating, like imbibing a ray of sunshine. Firstly, prepare the filling. You will need two large bowls for this: one for the whipping cream and one of the mascarpone.

This choice is really a matter of preference and I have two distinct use cases for my own limoncello. The first is for when I’m creating my own limoncello for my own experiments or for my own enjoyment. If it’s just for me, I always use clear bottles. But if you can only find 75% (151 proof) grain alcohol, that will work too. The difference when using a 151 proof grain alcohol is that the final flavor won't be as strong. And if you put the limoncello in the freezer, it may freeze (a limoncello made using 190 proof grain alcohol won't freeze). Because it may freeze, the limoncello made with 75% grain alcohol may be better to store in the fridge rather than the refrigerator. How to store limoncello:

Testimonials

If you’ve never had the pleasure of enjoying limoncello, you’re in for a real treat! Limoncello is a traditional Italian liqueur made from lemons. The flavor is tart, citrusy, and sweet (thanks to the addition of simple syrup). How much alcohol is in each serving of your limoncello depends on two factors—what proof alcohol you use to extract the lemon and how much simple syrup you add in the end. While we can’t give you the exact percentage of alcohol of your limoncello (you’ll need a hydrometer for that), we can give you some ballpark estimates: Starting Alcohol In addition to limoncello, the shop also sells honey, marmalade, pastries, and natural cosmetics made with lemons. The shop is impossible to miss with lemon products literally spilling out onto the cobblestones alongside the staircase leading to Amalfi’s cathedral façade.

Like grappa and perhaps sambuca too, limoncello has become an Italian staple and can be found in most homes in its native country. However, it’s surprisingly difficult to find in the USA unless you live in a neighbourhood with a strong Italian-American community.Limoncello is traditionally drunk as an aperitif—an alcoholic drink that is taken either before or after a meal to stimulate digestion. Some folks also use limoncello as a palate cleanser between courses. And of course, some people (hi, me!) just like to sip it because it tastes so darn delicious! Limoncello is a common drink in the summertime because it is so refreshing, but it tastes wonderful all year! Pour the mixture into a pourable cup or spoon it directly on top of the tiramisu. Sprinkle on candied lemon peel if desired. Cover and refrigerate for at least four hours, or up to two days.

As in making a good risotto, a fine wheel of Parmigiano-Reggiano, or a bottle of traditional balsamic vinegar, good limoncello results from quality ingredients, generations of knowledge, small but critical tweaks in the recipe, and well-kept family secrets passed down over generations. Celebrating an occasion? Then Limoncello Ricotta Cake with cream cheese frosting is a cake that everyone will love. Full of flavors and a light and airy texture, it's a great recipe to have on hand for special occasions. In 1988, a businessman from Capri named Massimo Canale registered the first trademark with the word “limoncello,” using a recipe handed down from his great-great-grandmother and commercializing the drink outside of the region. It was an idea—and a product—that would prove wildly successful, as limoncello has transcended not only the region but all of Italy to be considered an international and world-class tradition. Different Lemons, Different Attributes This is a privately owned citrus grove near the train station where you can sample the products and buy. The park-like grounds are peaceful and inviting, shaded with lemon-studded arbors and linked together with meandering paths. In addition to limoncello, you can sample a variety of lemon products as well as liqueurs made with fennel, oranges, mandarins, basil, and other creative combinations. They say that on the island of Capri, a lady named Maria Antonia Farace that ran a small inn, was famous for her limoncello (a recipe from her nonna). Before freezing your cheesecake, make sure it has cooled completely. Then, wrap it in plastic wrap, before adding a layer of tin foil. This limoncello with the sugar amounts given won't be overly sweet. Try it out, and you can adjust the sugar amount to make it sweeter or less sweet depending on your preferences. For instance, traditional limoncello producers will only use one variety of lemon, which should be carefully peeled by hand. Furthermore, there should be no other ingredients except for sugar, alcohol, and water. Therefore, their choice in ingredients and their quality will greatly affect the resulting price. What Next? Limoncello bottles come in various shapes; there isn’t one standard appearance for a bottle of limoncello. The glass is typically either clear or frosted so that you can see the attractive yellow color of the liqueur. However, there are a few important considerations when choosing bottles for showcasing your home-made limoncello. Limoncello is meant to be served ice cold. As mentioned, keep it in the freezer until ready to serve so that it's as cold as it can be.
