About this deal

Newborn babies sleep a lot, but in short periods of time. They need to feed frequently and so they will wake every two to four hours for milk. Usually, a newborn baby will only be awake long enough for a feed and nappy change, before falling asleep again. During this time, don’t worry about things like “sleep training” your baby, or trying to get her to sleep through the night without a feed. Right now, she is learning about the world around her and you are building a relationship. Plus, she needs frequent feeds. She needs to know that she can trust you, that you will feed her when she’s hungry, and hold her when she’s crying. For some babies, this is no problem. They use their dummy to fall asleep and then sleep all night so everyone’s happy. For others, it’s a different story. At first, baby sleeps really well. Usually until she’s about three or four months old. And then sleep cycles start to establish more clearly and before we know it, we’re getting up 5 times a night to replace the dummy. Most children rely on their comforter when they are worried, afraid, or tired. They are usually needed at times such as bedtime, naptime, or when staying with someone else, (such as with a childminder or at nursery). As a drink that is largely connected to their infant days, drinking milk can be a comforting action to a toddler. If your toddler eats and drinks well throughout the days yet still asks for milk at bedtime/ throughout the night, it could be due to association rather than hunger/ thirst. Giving your toddler a familiar toy or baby comforter can be an effective replacement to milk. Baby soft toys are adorable but keep them out of the cot to avoid the risk of suffocation. They look cute on a shelf and your baby will enjoy looking at them, even talking to them later on. At first, choose one baby comforter that you know is safe and can slowly introduce during your baby’s first year.

Sleepytot's award winning baby comforters have little velcro paws which can hold onto dummies, soothers or teethers. The Millpond Child Sleep Clinic and The Worldwide Baby Sleep Consultant Company recommend our comforters as a way of helping little ones find their dummies easily at night and return to sleep without fully waking. Dummies not included. They are great transitional objects for your little one, helping them to gain independence from you, the parent. They act as a safe item for your child to turn to when they are seeking new adventures, when they are exploring new areas. ADAPTORS for use with MAM soothers are available . If you use a ringless soother you can find the adaptors in our shop.Other developmental issues that may affect sleep are bedwetting and moving from a cot to bed. These are both preschool landmarks that some children will take to more easily than others. Be guided by your child; observe how excited or reluctant they are about going to bed without a nappy or moving to a bed. If they seem anxious it may be worth waiting a little while before making changes. Here’s what I suggest to limit dummy dependency and avoid the nightly ‘dummy runs’. Use it for sleep times only, including nap time. If it’s used for comfort during the day, take it away once your baby is comforted. The Sleepytot baby comforter has helped thousands of babies and toddlers settle to sleep. It is a cuddly companion that can hold on to cots and prams, holds on to items such as dummies and act as a perfect pillow for your little one. Not only that but it is machine washable, easily replaceable, cute and safe. It might sound a little superficial but it does help if you your little one’s lovey is cute. After all, will be part of your family for years to come!

I recommend that you let your little one give up her comforter when she’s ready to (rather than when other people think she should!). Children tend to let go of their comforter when it loses its special meaning for them and when they feel confident trying new things (usually between 3 and 5 years of age). Milk before bed can also become a problem when your child uses it to delay going to sleep. Your child may ask for milk or water before bed as a stall tactic to get out of sleeping. When your child is in bed, he may tell you that he needs to use the bathroom – a request that gets him out of bed. It’s very cute! I love the idea that when it is time to give up the dummy, that he will still have a cuddly friend with him!” The Sleepytot baby comforter is right for you little one not just because it is safe, washable, secure, cuddly, soft, and replaceable. It is also practical. It can hold on to cots and bars, will keep a dummy or pacifier safe with its Velcro paws, and is a brilliant companion for your little one. We love our sleepytot, and it is without doubt the best thing we bought for our son. Wonderful product and would highly highly recommend.”Studies have shown that babies and toddlers who use a baby comforter are significantly more likely to sleep through the night than those with no comforter. When your child forms an attachment to a comforter (such as a blankie or soft toy) she’s able to use it to self soothe, which is essential if she is to learn how to sleep through the night without calling for you. So everyone gets a good night’s sleep. Also, make sure it’s machine washable. Your baby’s comforter will definitely get pretty grotty at times!

You need less bedding than you think. A few fitted cot sheets and a baby sleeping bag will keep your little one safe and snug. Baby comforters get lost and this can mean lots of sleepless nights and fretful small person until another way of self soothing is established. Choosing a comforter for your baby that you know you can easily replace will mean you avoid situations like this. For more information on baby comforters, take a look at the following articles:As per the Red Nose safe sleep guidelines below, the Sleepytot should not be let unattended in the cot until baby is 7 months old. In many cases, this also coincides with baby's coordination development, giving them the ability to find their own dummy in the night with the aid of a Sleepytot. Sleepytot's of light stuffed and approx the size of a face washer, making them an ideal first comforter for your baby.
