About this deal

Maladroit received mostly positive at the time of release, but remains one of the band's lowest-selling albums. The album's only singles, " Dope Nose" and " Keep Fishin'" received respectable radio play and MTV circulation, propelled by popular music videos, but failed to really get the album off the ground. A Rolling Stone reader poll ranked Maladroit as the 8th best album of 2002, with another reader poll from 2002 ranking it as the 90th greatest album of all time. [9] Browne, David (May 24, 2002). "Maladroit". Entertainment Weekly. Archived from the original on December 22, 2016 . Retrieved May 4, 2012. There’s very little doubt that the latter accusation was not meant as a compliment, but perhaps its reflective of how enigmatic Rivers was at this point that it never crossed the writer’s mind that he might take it as one. I enjoy this song, it is catchy. I like this song I like it. I find lyrics a little very bad but I like the song outside of that. another guitar solo that I find pointless too, I dont know why so many songs have a guitar solo it ruins the pace of the entire song. song is pretty fun too, I just do not like it as much due to annoying chorus. I find rivers saying "Oh" a bunch to be a really unexciting chorus. Everything else about this song is fine though. I hope rivers beats up my man.

song sounds fairly nice, nice soft song, lyrics seem pointless but I like how the song sounds. not much else to say, perfectly good song that deserves to be on album. the do's annoy me during chorus Orshoski, Wes. "Geffen's Weezer on 'Maladroit'." Billboard: The International Newsweekly of Music, Video and Home Entertainment May 11, 2002: 1,1, 72. ProQuest. Web. 21 July 2015 . The songwriting here is very fun, quirky and exotic, and Rivers Cuomo has the time of his life on some of these songs. Scott Shriner is a member of Weezer for the first time, hey Scott! Cromelin, Richard (May 12, 2002). "From Weezer, Exuberant 'Maladroit' Is Anything But". Los Angeles Times . Retrieved August 30, 2013. A May 2002 Guitar World interview with Cuomo reflects the frontman’s beyond-complicated (to say the least) relationship with his fans, where he tells the interviewer: “Most of the time I’m a pretty cool character.” Regarding the fact that his fans may expect him to be “distraught” more often than not, he really goes off:I dont like this song nearly as much as the first two. very very generic. lyrics weak again, chorus is not very good. I dont really enjoy this song but the title has fish in it so I like that. last minute of the song also has a change that I like a lot more then the rest so that is strange, strange weezer, like a ghost, strange. The Not-Remix: Though they re-recorded "Keep Fishin'" entirely for the music video and single version, the most discernable differences are a new acoustic guitar intro note the album version starts with a couple measures of drums instead and a slightly different ending. Prior to the album's release, the band created a promotional CD featuring eight songs titled Songs from the Forthcoming "Maladroit", again without the label's foreknowledge, and sent it to hundreds of radio stations. Said Koch: There’s a good chance that in the audience at any given Weezer show, there’s a guy named Jonas who goes nuts as soon as that acoustic jingle at the start of “My Name Is Jonas” rings out. The opening song on Weezer’s first album is a goofy, absurdist yarn about Cuomo’s brother getting stiffed by his car insurance provider. The lyrics don’t make a lot of sense if you try to parse them – what kind of a name is Wepeel? Why are the workers going home? – but the song is an absolute joy among Weezer songs, right down to its climactic harmonica solo. 4: Across the Sea However, as I have learned so far, every Weezer album has it's Achilles heel, it's total and complete weakness that crushes an important part of the whole experience. In this case, Maladroit's second half is boring as hell. And I really mean it, the last four songs make me sleep. Listening to every Weezer album from worst rated to best nondescript guitars play over boring lyrics. but I like this type of music so I dont mind; melodies are fun and catchy occasionally; songs are fun. yay yay. I like this more than green, more exciting. (too many guitar solos) Beaumont, Mark (December 21, 2002). "Weezer: Maladroit". NME. Archived from the original on March 3, 2016 . Retrieved January 25, 2011.Does it fail at being Weezer [Blue Album]? Yep. Is it close, quality-wise, to Weezer [Blue Album]? Nope. Is Weezer [Blue Album] a MUCH better version of Maladroit? Yep. Does that make Maladroit bad? Nope.

There’s no downplaying what this song is about, so here it goes: “Across the Sea” is Cuomo’s fantasy about a Japanese girl who sent him a letter. “I wonder how you touch yourself / And curse myself for being across the sea,” Cuomo sings. It’s easily the most unsettling song on Pinkerton, but as a portrait of obsession and isolation, it’s a masterpiece. Though the details in “Across the Sea” are specific to Cuomo, many of his listeners could relate to his feelings of loneliness and shame. 3: Say It Ain’t So In a 2022 retrospective on the occasion of Maladroit's 20th anniversary, Stereogum writer Rachel Brodsky said of the record, "In terms of actual album content, Maladroit is so much better than most remember. It’s a peculiar kind of aging, and what you think of the album may have everything to do with how old you are. For those ’90s die-hards who won’t accept anything after Pinkerton, Maladroit represents a broken, unacceptable band on a perma-decline. For the younger sect — say, anyone born in or after the ’90s — Maladroit is early enough in Weezer’s overall catalog that it represents an acceptable entry point before things got really bad." [10] Individual songs Reviewer Eliscu, Jenny. "Rivers Cuomo's Encyclopedia of Pop". Rolling Stone. Archived from the original on 2009-10-21 . Retrieved 2015-07-09. Weezer[Good Album] Honestly, Maladroit is everything that the Green Album ever wanted to be, and maybe a little bit more. Sure, it isn't a masterpiece and fails to reach the same heights as their debut, the peak-geek-freak amazing record, but Maladroit is really nice.

18: El Scorcho

filler song, I didnt remember it after listening three times. song is fairly pointless. do not care for it at all, glad it is short though ya yay I like short things s I love short things As with all Weezer albums, it was an album of firsts. It was the first album to feature current bassist Scott Shriner after the breakdown and departure of Mikey Welsh, the first to contain a booklet with lyrics (which included a special message thanking Weezer boardies), and the first to feature more than ten songs. The first 600,000 copies of Maladroit were numbered in a limited edition, with gold foil digits at the bottom corner.

singing annoys me slightly on this, lyrics do too. that said, there is something about this song I like, I just couldnt say what. song is perfectly fine, not bad, would suggest more barking. Pitchfork. 14 November 2005. http://pitchfork.com/features/staff-lists/6194-the-worst-record-covers-of-all-time/7/Other than that, however, Maladroit is a good example of what Weezer can achieve, if they take out their heads from their own buttholes.
