About this deal

Switch on the charger. See below for the correct charging conditions depending on your type of charger. If you are using a constant-current charger or a boost-charger, remove the vent-plugs or manifolds before charging. There is no need to remove the vent-plugs or manifolds if you are using a constant-potential or a ‘smart’ charger. Can't find what you're looking for? In most cases we are able to trace your vehicle by accessing an online database. From here we can tell the make, model, engine size and equipment level of your car, mpv, 4x4 or van and match up the correct battery. We receive data from battery manufacturers and this may be subject to change and / or manufacturing tolerances. If the alternator regulator is not set properly, or alternator voltage control circuit fails, then the battery can be subjected to an excessive charge.

If a battery is allowed to stand in a discharged state either on or off a vehicle for a period of time, a chemical reaction takes place which will permanently impair the performance and life of the battery, this process is called “sulphation”. Excessive use of electrical consumers, – air conditioning, stereo (incorrectly fitted direct to the battery) etc It should be noted that a vehicle fitted originally by manufacturer with an AGM battery should be replaced only with an AGM battery. Likewise, a vehicle originally fitted with an EFB battery should only be replaced by and EFB or AGM battery. Typically seen in a battery within 12 months service life. One cell will show a dramatically lower acid specific gravity reading than the others. The problem cell will usually boil visibly under a high discharge, all other remaining cells will show a good specific gravity reading of 1.26 or above. Short Circuit/dead cells seen in later life are usually associated with the recovery of a sulphated/overdischarged battery. It is possible to see variable acid specific gravities between cells if sulphation is the route cause.C. Charge the battery at the recommended charge rate. If you cannot set the recommended rate, extend or reduce the charging time on a pro rata basis. For example, if the recommendation is to charge the battery at 4.0A for 6 hours (24Ah = 4.0 x 6), charge the battery for 12 hours if you can only set the charger at 2.0A (24Ah = 2.0 x 12). C. Only use a boost-charger that limits the charging voltage to a maximum of 14.2 Volts and that has a temperature monitor. There are many different types of hand held digital conductance tester on the market. They generally give a good indication
of problems but the following points should always be taken
into account. These maintain a fixed, constant, pre-set voltage throughout the charging period. The current cannot be set and will fall as the battery state-of-charge increases. Note. Many customers severely underestimate the amount of time necessary to charge a flat battery. This results in customers returning batteries saying that they have charged the battery but that it is still not holding charge.

Yuasa 12v 85Ah 800A Silver Car Battery YBX5110 (HSB110) Yuasa 12v 85Ah 800A Silver Car Battery YBX5110 (HSB110) This Yuasa YBX5110 12v 85Ah Silver High Performance SMF Battery features specialist internal components, unique design features and cutting edge technologies to combat the causes of battery failure and deliver reliability, long life and superior performance. Different battery manufacturing design techniques can significantly effect the reading on one digital conductance tester as common algorithms have to be used. For example, batteries designed with more durability in mind tend to carry more material and higher density, this is usually reflected in a lower initial voltage, but longer discharge times. Digital testers can only determine realistically the initial internal resistance of the battery at the particular state of battery, not how much material is available. This can cause considerable difference between the indicated CCA data and the real CCA data obtained in a laboratory under real current loads to the appropriate battery standard specified. The condition of battery cables and terminal connections can influence the reading on the hand held tester.

These provide a very high initial current, and are used mainly to put some charge into a flat battery when it is needed urgently by the customer. The current falls as the battery state-of-charge increases, and the battery temperature is monitored to make sure it does not overheat. Undercharging occurs if the battery is not receiving enough charge to return it to a full state of charge, this will slowly cause sulphation. This fault can occur if the car is being used only occasionally for short journeys, or for Start-Stop urban motoring. Undercharging will occur if alternator voltage is low (13.6-13.8volts), the alternator belt is loose or battery cables are worn and causing high resistance – If in doubt seek advice from an auto electrician. Battery Problems Manufacturing Faults

The batteries recommended within this Yuasa application list are equal to or above the original equipment specification. Fitting a smaller or less powerful battery will result in a shorter service life and earlier failure. The failure will normally be seen as deep cycling/premature wear and tear. It is good practice to wait for about 20 minutes for the gases to clear before removing the leads from the battery as some chargers remain ‘live’ and can cause a spark. When fitting the charger to the battery, connect the positive lead to the positive terminal and the negative lead to the negative terminal. Yuasa Silver car batteries allow around 50,000 engine starts, compared to around 20,000 on a normal battery. The majority of commercial chargers, particularly home-chargers, are of this type, and allow neither the voltage nor the current to be preset. Use the same procedure as for Constant Potential Chargers in the paragraph above. Boost Chargers

They provide dependable starting power, exceptional corrosion resistance and the performance to handle the demands of today’s modern vehicles. CCA readings can be measured according to a number of international standard SAE, EN, DIN or IEC, Within the EN 50342: 2006 standard two requirements are listed: EN1 & EN2. Typical Conductance testers are calibrated toward EN2 standard, however the ETN numbering system makes it difficult for the normal man to understand which standard is being used on the battery. The sulphation hinders the efficiency of the electrochemical reactions within the battery between the active material of the plates and the acid. This is not a manufacturing fault. B. These chargers should be able to charge over discharged (below 11.00V) batteries. Note that some have a special setting for all-calcium batteries. Constant Current Chargers For example, if the battery has a voltage of 12.16V, charge it for 10 hours at the recommended charge rate.

There are many types of charger available; their working principles and the procedure for using these is given below. Smart Chargers Due to the high demands of the OEM market and the technical and manufacturing standards of Yuasa batteries, the rate of genuine manufacturing faults is negligible. C. Note. The majority of constant potential chargers are incapable of charging a severely over discharged (below 11.00V) battery in a realistic period of time. A minimum of 24 hours is normal. It might be impossible to charge an over discharged battery. Modified Constant Potential Chargers E. If you are charging a battery below 11.00V (over discharged) that has been in service, a specialised charger capable of providing a very high charging voltage may be necessary, and the recommended current may not be obtainable at first. In this case, monitor the current and adjust as necessary during the charge. If a battery has become over discharged, it will have lost both life and performance because of irreversible sulphation. Charging may reduce further its potential life. Constant Potential Chargers Nevertheless, it should be clearly understood that wet (filled) lead acid battery is “a live” product. Whether it is in storage or in service, it has a finite life. All batteries once filled will slowly self discharge. The higher the storage temperature and humidity of the storage area, the greater the rate of self discharge.Terminal Layout: Negative (-) on left, Positive (+) on right ; with the terminals on the edge of the battery closest to you If you are collecting instore from our Swindon branch we can dispose of the old battery free of charge.
