About this deal

As you can see, the video specs are a bit underwhelming here, but that’s OK (depending on your scenario, of course), we’re dealing with a device from Zoom, so let’s talk audio! Audio specs Available are two shotgun modules, XY/AB stereo modules and VR modules, as well as an XLR extension module. In the box you will find a 120° XYQ-8 stereo module. image credit: Zoom

Though the Q8n-4K boasts a notable boost in image quality over the Q8, its performance in low light situations still struggles. There was noticeable grain when we tested the Q8n-4K in low light, even in its night mode. It’s a huge qualm, considering it’s marketed as a camera intended for capturing live concerts. For indoor concerts or night concerts, there will be noticeable grain, especially considering there’s no ISO control. While the camera does feature two lighting modes for low light and in-door settings, they do little to reduce the grain. Stabilization types of scene settings (Auto / Indoor / Outdoor / Night / Concert Light) and 3 levels of brightness adjustment function The concept of an audio-first video camera might seem odd at first glance, but it makes perfect sense upon closer inspection. Both this camera and its 2018 predecessor are perfect companions for musicians, for example. The Zoom Q8n-4K also houses a new sensor with a much higher pixel count than the Q8, jumping from a 3-megapixel 1/3-inch-type CMOS sensor to a 16-megapixel 1/2.3-inch-type CMOS sensor. With a slightly larger sensor — increasing the pixel count fivefold — there is a noticeable difference in the image quality between the two models. The extra pixels let you capture more detail and dynamic range, leading to a clearer, higher-quality image. Image courtesy: Zoom

Two XLR inputs that can be connected to an external microphone / line (phantom power / -20dB PAD compatible) The unit can run off the included BT-03b Li-ion battery or accept power through USB-C. The battery charges when plugged into a computer. Use the tripod thread underneath to sit the unit atop a full-size tripod or one of those googly-legged desktop tripods – it’s definitely light enough. We took the Zoom Q8n-4K out to a nearby park. With the camera set to 4K at 30 fps, we experience some noticeable grain in our image’s dark to somewhat dark areas. Even in a well-lit environment, there was grain. It was clear that the camera wouldn’t fare too well in low-lit situations. The camera’s lighting filters also do little to help its low-light image quality. When recording, we swapped between the settings and found that the camera’s image was either too dark to capture details in the shadows or too bright to capture elements like the sky or bright areas. If shooting with this camera outside, we would recommend using the auto setting. This ensures that, if there’s a change in the lighting as the day progresses, the camera can try its best to correct it. Powered by rechargeable lithium-ion battery (Zoom BT-03) or mains adapter (Zoom AD-17, not included) Effects to improve recording quality (Limiter / Compressor / Leveler / DeEsser / NoiseGate) and switchable low-cut filter

Update to below: I recorded some footage tonight, using INDOOR setting and mounted on a tripod - no movement. Camera and microphone did pretty good. I think I'm going to end up giving it some more time before returning and I feel as if I may end up keeping it. The Zoom Q8n-4K weighs 367 grams including the battery and can record 1080p videos for up to 2.5 hours (around 80 mins when recording 4K). The camera accepts microSD / microSDHC / microSDXC cards with a capacity of up to 512 GB. If needed, the camera can also be controlled remotely via a special app (iOS/Android), but this requires a Bluetooth adapter (sold separately) called BTA-1. image credit: Zoom Audio is recorded up to 96 kHz/24-bit, 16-bit WAV. 48 kHz/24-bit, 16-bit and 44.1 kHz/24-bit. The Zoom Q8n-4K offers more advanced audio filters that you can find out about here. USB mic function (with low-latency direct monitoring) when used with computers and iOS devices (Apple Camera Connection Kit or Lightning to USB Camera Adapter required for use with iOS devices)

Klar, für 400 EUR muss man Kompromisse eingehen, aber lieber hätte ich 50 EUR mehr ausgegeben und das Bild wäre wirklich gut.
