About this deal

At crocus, we have over 30 different sizes of pots that plants and trees are grown in. Here is a simple guide to the different options (and some nice pics of Mike our webmeister).

Our Square Plastic Plant Pots are suitable for use in several systems such as propagation flood systems, drain drip feed systems or a bespoke home system. These pots are made from a high-quality durable plastic and are shaped to maximise space efficiency. Dimensions: 40.8cm diameter top, 29.8cm diameter base and 33cm depth. Internal top diameter 36cm. Capacity: 30 litres.A wide range of perennials are available in 2-litre pots, particularly when you buy them earlier in the season before they have put on growth. However, for instant impact in your outdoor space, you’re likely to want to invest in a few ‘feature’ plants, and they will more often than not be in larger pots. For example, for an ornamental tree, you would need to start at around 15L (and you could expect a tree of at least 120cm height). However, don’t forget that not all pots come in one standard size; some are made to suit specific types of plants, so be sure to consider this when deciding on a pot for your plant! What is the volume of a 4 liter pot? is the size of pot commonly used for herbs. Herbaceous perennials are also sometimes sold in this size in early spring. Although these are the smallest pot size that we currently sell, they are still substantially larger than many online offerings. Measuring an approximate diameter of 13.5cm, they offer great value for money, especially if you have lots of beds and containers to fill. Our 1 litre pots are predominantly used for herbaceous varieties, which means that after a few weeks of good weather, you will be able to enjoy a handsome plant specimen, at a fraction of the cost. Phlox douglasii ‘White Admiral’ is a great example of a Litre Pot, a small but delightful addition to any garden. 1.5 Litre Pots:

The size of the pot in which a plant is grown has a significant impact on its growth. Plants need enough room to spread out their roots and absorb nutrients from the soil, so if they are placed in a pot that is too small they may become root-bound and unable to take up sufficient resources. The ability to drain excess water is critical for optimised plant growth. These round plant pots come with numerous drainage holes at the base. This allows you to water in full confidence the media can be flushed through, replacing old, depleted nutrients with fresh, o2 rich nutrients. Large items are sent via a standard 48L (48 hour large) service. Large items take from 2 working days to arrive. A 4 liter plant pot has a volume of 0.15 cubic feet. This is equivalent to 1 gallon, which is the standard size for a potted plant. To calculate the volume of a 4 liter pot, you simply need to multiply 4 liters by 0.0353146667 (this is the conversion rate from liters to cubic feet). Dimensions: 50cm diameter top, 35.5cm diameter base and 35.5cm depth. Internal top diameter 45cm. Capacity: 43 litres.

This is the size that many nurseries use for 'specimen' plants. These are plants that were grown in 3 litres last year, have been moved into these larger pots, and then grown on for another year. These round plant potrs are made from strong co-polymer for durability. These pots can be reused again and again for coming seasons, once the young plants have been potted on to larger plant pots or garden planters once their roots have developed.
