About this deal

Short of coming into your house in a burglar outfit in the middle of the night, poisoning all your houseplants, and punching your mom in the face, you do not get to have an opinion on how this woman, or any other writer or artist, spends their time. I’d always hated school: the uniform, the dogma. Leaving was the high point of my formative years.I always hate it when characters act stupidly contrary like this. Guess what, Paige? It's life. You are not special. School is expected, as are following the rules. Nobody likes it, but we do it because it's the mature thing to do. Making a character a special snowflake is a surefire way to guarantee that I will not like her. Paige just doesn't feel like she belongs in the average life. She's meant for something more. So instead of settling into a mundane life like the rest of us (and therefore saving me from having to read this book), Paige joins the clairvoyant version of the Mafia. Warden! I held hope for Warden! And the bastard crushed it! Actually, bastard is not the right word. He's just... transparent. Tasteless. Uninteresting. Another teacher in the making.

and THEN when she kept calling him the blood-consort i couldn't even read i just skimmed like a whole chapter Going into this novella I was pretty curious to see what this was gonna add to the world that we are presented and how it was gonna add to the story and move it. In retrospective, I should have paid a lot more attention to the fact that this is, in fact, a prequel to The Bone Season and, therefore, it was not gonna move the story forward in any way. When it's been nearly two months since you read The Song Rising and all you can think about is how you really want TBS4 now. *wishes for a time machine* Visual Pun: Jaxon to Nadine, blowing a ring of cigar fumes into her face: "I wonder how long it will take the NVD to ... smoke you out?"a b Ciabattari, Jane (18 August 2013). " 'The Bone Season': Could This Be The Next Harry Potter? Maybe!". NPR . Retrieved 20 August 2013. Paige Mahoney has escaped death yet again. Taken from captivity and brought to a safe house in Paris, she’s going to need time to recover from her ordeal. As part of my work with UN Women, I have started reading as many books and essays about equality as I can get my hands on. There is so much amazing stuff out there! Funny, inspiring, sad, thought-provoking, empowering! I’ve been discovering so much that, at times, I’ve felt like my head was about to explode… I decided to start a Feminist book club, as I want to share what I’m learning and hear your thoughts too. The romance tries so hard to be a slow burn. Too bad it isn't. More like nothing happens, there's not an ounce of chemistry, and suddenly they can't take their hands off each others. I’m thrilled to be working with Imaginarium to make The Bone Season’ into a film,” said Shannon in an interview with The Oxford Student. “Having consultation rights means this will be a collaborative project. I’ll be involved every step of the way.”

And after this - after ALL THIS - she ends up having sexy thoughts and explorations with the 'tall, handsome' alien master who has violated her in so many ways since she got here. Because she "loves" him. Because he's "different than the rest of them." Excuse me while I go vomit in the corner. This doesn't happen 'til very near the end of the novel, but I could see it coming a mile away and the dread was building and solidifying in me with every conversation they had with one another. The plan is to select and read a book every month, then discuss the work during the month’s last week (to give everyone time to read it!). I will post some questions/quotes to get things started, but I would love for this to grow into an open discussion with and between you all. Whenever possible I hope to have the author, or another prominent voice on the subject, join the conversation. PLEASE STOP TORMENTING WRITERS OR AGITATING THEM FOR HAVING A LIFE AND INTERESTS OUTSIDE OF PLEASING YOU. Thuban refers to Paige as "it" when questioning Warden about her, demonstrating his especially contemptuous view of human worth: about on par with animals, if not lower. Warden presents an immediate contrast by answering with "she." Paige’s menstrual cycle being talked about openly and in a matter of fact way in an adult fantasy/dystopian/sci-fi is rare to find. I just loved that it was included.

The Big Damn Kiss: The unresolved tension between Paige and the Warden culminates in one of these near the end of the book, moments before she's marched up to the stage for public execution. We take a lot of time to explore the relationship between our two protagonists and that is just the one thing I had been craving desperately for a while, and it is all done in a way that makes perfect sense for them to have that kind of time. I'm not really sure how I feel about the romance in The Bone Season. This book already had a lot going on that I feel it was unnecessary. Not to mention, its believability. I couldn't suspend belief long enough to accept that two characters, who didn't trust each other (one of which hated the other for about 75% of the book), could then have all these strong feelings for one another out of nowhere. It was apparent that this was supposed to be building, but I never really got a good sense of that, especially since one of the characters' personality consisted of him being devoid of emotion. So much time was spent on explaining the world and the rebellion plans and not on the couple's growing feelings, that it didn't feel organic. Instead, it felt as if it just manifested to add an extra layer of complexity, something that this novel did not require. I really, really wanted to like this book. It sounds stupid but I actually feel slightly guilty at how disappointed I was with it and I think the main reason is because the author is a British student of the same age as me and, as soon as I learned that, I really wanted her to succeed. I really wanted Shannon to be the next J.K.Rowling, as some are calling her. I really wanted her debut to take me out of this world and leave me desperate to get my hands on the next installment. However, I just didn't think The Bone Season was anything special or original. In my opinion, it shows definite potential for Shannon's future as a writer but the story is a regurgitated version of one that has been told countless times.
