About this deal

In Book 2 the women have accepted their differences although are still not quite easy with each other. George now has a paid consulting role with the police which is causing tension among her academic colleagues at the university where she lectures. Whitney is now dealing simultaneously with trying to identify a serial vigilante murderer while trying to deal with her mother's escalating dementia. Whitney has recognised the value of George's contributions to her police investigations and is calling on George more and more, while overly-reserved George is trying valiantly to loosen up and be more friendly and approachable. Another good book in the series is called Final Verdict. A killer is on the loose and they are targeting lawyers. Walker is struggling to find a motive in the case and each lead seems to lead to a dead end. The killer is using lethal injection and there is something linking these cases that Walker isn’t seeing. Cavendish comes on board to investigate as the two hope to close in on the killer before they strike again. DEADLY GAMES is the first crime fiction/police procedural book in a new series featuring DCI Whitney and Forensic Psychologist, Dr. Georgina (George) Cavendish by author Sally Rigby.

In the first four novels, we have seen DCI Walker and forensic psychologist Georgianna ("George") Cavendish work together to solve several clusters of murders involving serial killers. They are quite different people with individual strengths and certain weaknesses or "blind spots". Despite their differences, or because of them, they have managed to combine their talents to become a very effective crime-solving team. Their "blind spots" have at times caused some frictions, but more often than not, humorous interactions. At times however, they have put themselves into perilous situations inadvertently. But mostly, they have grown to value their relationship, and their various strengths, to look after each other and their friendship.

When the killer targets Whitney's daughter, also a college student, things become rather fraught in fear and anger. There are surprising twists and turns leading to an unexpected ending. The main character, Whitney, is insufferable and not a good cop, she arrested the first suspect she talked to bc he had porn on his computer and used an escort service. All was going well in her career and role when things go pear shaped, a drug bust that her always reliable informant got spectacularly wrong. That case is briefly referred to and that mistake means her job is on the line. So everything is on the line with this current case. DCI Whitney Walker’s in trouble. She’s threatened with demotion if she screws up another case. So, when a killer starts murdering female students, it’s a chance to redeem herself.

Well she is taken off the case and talks to George as their relationship starts to build after a stiff talking to from George they decide to team up all under the radar with key trusted members of the team away from the station. Rigby was born in Northampton in the United Kingdom and lived all over England before making the decision to move overseas. She would eventually move to New Zealand where she still lives to this day and considers it to be the most beautiful place in the world. Sally has had a long love affair with crime fiction, films, and television shows. Her love of the genre really shows up in her writing. The author starts the book with Whitney’s Mum showing signs of dementia, which was extremely worrying as she is the only carer for her brain-damaged brother. This wasn’t an issue, what happens was; I’ve only recently discovered author Sally Rigby’s series of crime books, which follow detective Whitney Walker through her professional -and private - life. It’s definitely a theme which can easily be slotted into the ‘crime fiction’ genre, but I think that risks underselling the novels. Walker and Cavendish over time combine forces to try to catch the worst serial killer in Lenchester’s history. Walker starts using a forensic pathologist to help with the profiling and that person is George. I wanted to like this series so much! 2 ladies solving a mystery sounded like it was going to be my jam. This crime mystery takes a sinister turn as we take a look into the world of child grooming and vigilantes. Sally does an excellent job of portraying a complex subject weighing in with both the detestation of the crimes and atrocities committed but also weighing this against it still being wrong to take the law into one’s own hands even if the perpetrators might deserve what they get. Interestingly this particular series follows the serial killing of a vigilante fighting against paedophiles rather than too much of a focus being on the child grooming itself.
