About this deal

However, I can pull my joker card on this one ‘cause the motives can completely excuse eighteen years of friendship. It sounds pretty bad, I know.😬 But with what Jasper was going through, it was a delecate situation to act on his feelings and risk to jeopardize his relationship with the Eatons; his one and only family plus his friendship with Sloan. The age gape between them and her unmistakable crush on him since her 10years old didn’t do them any favors mostly at the beginning of their friendship and made things a little awkward at times ,plus Sloan’s father never had been Jasper’s biggest fan. Beau was also a weird mystery; he was the main reason that Jasper was depressed and then he was found but we did not get a scene where Jasper and Beau reunite??? They are supposed to be BROTHERS and yet we did not get anything? It was such a copout. Powerless is the third book in Elsie Silver’s ‘Chestnut Springs’ series and I am obsessed! Seriously, every book in this series is incredible! Friends to lovers, age gap, unrequited love, sports romance and forced proximity. So many troupes I love! She says there are boundaries we shouldn’t cross. That my reputation can’t take any more hits—and neither can her damaged heart. It’s also a journey of personal growth for both of them, and although they’re there for each other, they each need to come to their own conclusions about what matters in life. And what they would give up, or just give, for their person.

honestly i think this is my favorite book with this trope. i think it's hard to pull off because while romance has a sense of eventuality to it i.e. the characters will end up together, i think accidental pregnancy can feel a little forced. like of course you're going to try to make this one night stand turned relationship work cause there's a lot at stake. nothing inherently wrong with that, it just feels a little less sexy to have that looming. this book didn't have that feeling for me. But, the book isn’t without its flaws. The minor gripe I had was the way the conflict(s) was handled. I mean, emotions were rife and whatnot but it somewhat dragged for me. And I wish certain elements that surrounded the conflicts were expanded upon more. And yes, the Eatons are there, along with that sense of family and belonging I love so much. And I absolutely love Cade and Willa. There’s nothing like those two. This follows Summer and Rhett Eaton. Rhett Eaton is known as a bit of a player and famous for bull riding but due to the bad press he has been receiving lately he has been assigned a babysitter by his agent to keep him in line.

Hobbies

Two childhood friends. Two broken hearts. One impromptu road trip to get away from everything. That’s all this was supposed to be. Afterall, I’ve been living in the friend zone for years now. yes i wanted to bang my head against a steel door bc the smut was cringe at times and their family joking around that they’re cousins…they’re NOT!! not by blood, not even legally!! those bitches from credence were more blood related than them 😒 Rhett is a bull rider working toward his third championship, but not without negative publicity, something his agent is beginning to deal with. Said agent sends his daughter Summer on tour with Rhett to keep him out of trouble. As a lawyer and clerk at her father’s agency, Summer struggles with her attraction to the man whose posters hung on her wall as a teenager, god forbid she crosses the line of professionalism. I didn't really care about the rest of the characters, Cade was an ass and Winter was a bitch, but I'm excited to read their povs on the next books and see their reaons for being like that. And Jasper was a sweetheart but we didn't get much of him, so I can't say much more. Honestly, it would have worked better if these two had spent years on the outs with each other than constantly being around one another (even if they sometimes went weeks or months without talking) it would have made the angst more believable?

The unrequited love/longing really made up for it though. Jasper has a MOUTH and he did not disappoint. I’m beyond excited for Winter and Theo!!! Sometimes I feel like I sank to the bottom of that deep ocean and just took up residence. I got lost in Jasper’s eyes and never left." The only scenes that got me through this book were the Willa x Cade scenes and Winter x Theo first meeting.

Winter is such a strong heroine. She doesn't have a good example of what it is to be a good and loving mom, but when she finds herself in that position, she does the dang thing and she does it so well. She's an overcomer and though it takes people a while to get in there with her, once they do she's kind, loyal, and loving.
