About this deal

Some gingerbread biscuits are very hard but I like my ginger biscuit to be a little soft. These ones are just right. They're soft and a bit chewy so you definitely won't break any teeth on them! The recipe makes a huge amount of little biscuits but of course that will depend on the size of your cookie cutters. What ingredients do you need for gingerbread biscuits?

Mixed Spice is a store bought blend of spices used holiday dishes that gives Gingerbread Men more layers of flavour. Using just ginger and cinnamon as many recipes do is just too one dimensional! Smells of Christmas, hails from Britain, common in Australia but if you can’t find it where you are, don’t worry – it’s easy to make up your own using standard spices: cinnamon, all spice, nutmeg, cloves, ginger and coriander (in recipe notes, and don’t worry if you’re missing one or two); and Equally, you can swap the ground ginger for a little mixed spice or cinnamon for a Christmas treat that’s just as tasty. If you don’t have gingerbread man cookie cutters, you can use this recipe to make any shaped ginger cookie you like. If you still want to be festive, try a star or Christmas tree shape or use any other shape you have.Weigh the butter then chop it up with a butter/blunt knife into a small pieces before adding it to the flour. This will make it easier to mix into the flour and it an easy way for little kids to practice their knife skills. History [ edit ] A gingerbread man, with icing decoration Freshly baked gingerbread men with a variety of decorations And finally, there’s a job that everyone will enjoy – decorating the gingerbread men! Whether your’re using icing writers or homemade icing, or just adding smartie buttons, this is a fun job to do together at Christmas time. In a separate large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, brown sugar, and eggs using an electric mixer on medium speed until combined. Once combined, add molasses and vanilla and mix well until fully combined. I first made these soft chewy gingerbread biscuits with Little Miss Spice when she was just 19 months old. Even at that age she loved using her cookie cutters and playing with the cookie dough. I think she thought it was playdoh!

And yes, I did give him a smiley face. Nobody wants to eat a grumpy Gingerbread Man! 😂 And even through this toughest of years we can all find some reason to smile, right? – Nagi x You can get as fancy as you want with your decorations! The way I’ve piped the icing across the arms and waist in a zig-zag is a pretty classic way of decorating Gingerbread Men.If you have icing writers they’re a simple way of adding mouths, eyes etc, otherwise mix around 1/2 a cup of icing sugar with a teaspoon or so of water and mix it together. You want it to be runny enough that you can pipe it, but not so runny that it won’t hold it’s shape on the cookie. Begin by whisking together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ginger, and cinnamon together in a small bowl. Make sure it’s well combined and set it to the side. Lastly, don’t worry if the gingerbread men look a little wonky once your kids have decorated them. My kids loved adding all the icing and smarties etc, but they certainly look a little rough around the edges. I think this is part of the fun of baking with kids – letting them use their imagination, and really take ownership of the things they make.
