And to me, that’s what makes these kind of stories entertaining! I thought the reveals were surprising but not too over the top (let’s face it, most thrillers do go in a bizarre direction with the reveals). Jake Hayes is missing. This much is certain. At first, his wife Nina thinks he is blowing off steam somewhere after their heated fight the night before. But then a day goes by. Two days. Five. And Jake is still nowhere to be found. Basically, Lily feels she did something, Christian goes all wild trying to protect her, Jake is missing, and Nina freaks out, because they fought before he disappeared. Who is telling the truth--anyone, everyone? Christian irritated me with his impulsive doltish ways, Nina needed to stand up for herself, and even Lily got to me after a while. And Jake seemed to have no redeeming qualities and could stay missing for all I cared. One of the twists was a pretty decent surprise; the other one not so much. An odd read overall. 3 stars.

This one was a huge miss for me. As far as 75% into the audiobook, nothing had happened besides Nina wondering where her husband is and Lily and Christian worrying about Lily being the last one to see him alive. The slow burn wasn’t suspenseful, it was mostly just boring. The writing is very repetitive. The predictability. I guessed every single twist light years before the characters did. Haven’t I read this story before??? When a man disappears under suspicious circumstances, a young couple tries to cover their involvement while his wife begins to wonder what they know. Lily Scott, Nina’s friend and coworker, thinks she may have been the last to see Jake before he went missing. After Lily confesses everything to her husband, Christian, the two make a pact not to tell anyone what happened. But Nina is out there looking for her husband, and she won’t stop until the truth is discovered. Two PerspectivesLily Scott, Nina’s friend and coworker, thinks she may have been the last to see Jake before he went missing. After Lily confesses everything to her husband, Christian, the two decide that nobody can find out what happened leading up to Jake’s disappearance, especially not Nina. But Nina is out there looking for her husband, and she won’t stop until the truth is discovered.” Christian and Lily are expecting their first child. This pregnancy is met with stress after having three miscarriages. Christian is a doting and loving husband. He will do anything to make sure this pregnancy reaches full term.

My favorite kind of thrillers are these type of domestic stories. I think they are quite fascinating and really makes you think. This one is a look at two very different marriages: Lily and Christian seem quite happy while Nina and Jake fight constantly. But even with Lily and Christian, there are still untold secrets between the two of them. It's possible for authors to hit multiple "grand slams" and, therefore, I have not given up on Mary Kubica. The nicest couples in question are Christian and Lily and Nina and Jake. Lily and Nina are teachers at the same high school and are good friends. One evening Christian arrives home to find newly pregnant Lily exhausted but it’s more than that as she seems fearful. The same night Jake fails to return home after the couple have an argument earlier in the day. Nina thinks he’s staying away to blow off steam but is that the case or is there more to it? I’ve read some of Mary Kubica’s other thrillers and I really like how she approaches her stories. They’re well-written, engaging and oftentimes quite surprising. That was definitely the case with Just the Nicest Couple. What’s the Story About

Rich with detail and a mounting, almost suffocating sense of dread, Just the Nicest Couple is a dark and twisted exploration of loyalty, family, and how far we’ll go to protect the ones we love." —Andrea Bartz, New York Times bestselling author of We Were Never Here She's been extremely tired lately. The pregnancy is getting the best of her. She's on her feet teaching all day. These two things in combination exhaust her. Being pregnant and teaching high school kids." HEY GUYS JUST IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW... SHE'S TIRED BECAUSE SHE'S PREGNANT AND TEACHES HIGH SCHOOL KIDS. WHICH MAKES HER TIRED. BECAUSE IT'S TIRING.The characters were boring. Only Nina was relatable. I didn’t like Lily. I found Christian creepy and obsessive like every nap you take I’m watching you style ( he keeps watching his wife sleeping). And Jake: that narcissistic asshole made his bed! I didn’t care if he’s dead or alive!

Thank you to the author Mary Kubica, publishers Park Row and Harper Collins, and Edelweiss, for an advance digital copy of JUST THE NICEST COUPLE.Just the Nicest Couple is a bland thriller about two couples, a missing husband, and the plot to cover up his disappearance. Both performers voices were expressive, speaking with clarity and precision. Both narrators enhanced my listening experience. Nina, meanwhile, believes Jake has just left her in his anger until she receives a call from the hospital where he works telling her that he has not come to work since Monday. Nina reports Jake missing at the police department, but the police do not seem to be too concerned about him. Nina even rescinds the missing person report on Jake when her mother, who has been staying with Nina since Jake’s disappearance, claims that Jake came home. Then, he left again when he realized she was there. Nina’s mother has macular degeneration, making it difficult for her to identify people. The man in the house was really Christian, looking for the key to Jake’s car so he could move it.
