There is a big difference in features across the loop station pedals. Before we look at each pedal and its unique features, let’s look at the common features available across all loop station pedals. You can’t use the reverse function either like you can with the RC-5 (my guide). As I said earlier, it’s a bare-bones pedal that does just what you need and no more. BOSS really did come along early to the looping party and dominate the market with a few well placed and effective looping devices. The RC-1 gives you have 12 minutes of stereo recording time. This is more than enough for creating loops. It’s especially good compared to the TC Electronic Ditto looper, for instance, which only offered five minutes of recording time. BOSS has a large range of guitar effects that could draw from, so hopefully, we will see a good range of guitar-based effects. The press release for the RC-600 mentions a lot of vocal and DJ-style effects, but I would expect to see a decent number of guitar effects as well. BOSS RC-600 vs RC-300 Comparison The RC-300 is quite a jump up in price over the RC-30, so take a look at what you’ll be creating with your loops and whether it’s worth the extra money or not. Features: do you just want to be able to record simple chord progressions to jam over? Or do you want to create full songs on-the-fly for solo performances? The external pedal on the contrary appears to always stop AND clear the loop. There’s some logic to this, since you can use the RC-1 to stop without clearing. Compared to the RC-50, these are extremely minor complications 🙂

If you’re a guitarist who likes to build up complex loops and you want all of the features in the RC-5, the hard choice for you will be whether to go for the RC-5 or get a more capable unit such as the RC-500.

If you’re looking for a simple looper and you don’t need the extra features in the other loop station models, compare this pedal against the RC-3 and RC-5 to decide which is right for you. While the RC-1 is a great pedal, it’s bare-bones compared to the RC-3. Being able to save up to 99 recordings on your pedal will be worth the extra price for most guitarists. I'd been planning to buy a looper pedal for ages, and I finally settled on the Boss RC-1 over the TC Looper because it didn't need a separate power supply, being equipped with a 9 volt battery.
