What seemed to be a promising emotional story about a girl who finds self acceptance from a childhood of neglect and trauma from a relationship with a cold yet gentle man. Into a story of saving the helpless princess. It just falls flat. In an alternative version of the Taishō era in which spirits and magic are real, but in decline, Miyo Saimori, born without supernatural talent, is forced into an existence of servitude by her abusive stepmother. When Miyo finally comes of marriageable age, though, her hopes of being whisked away to a better life crumble after she discovers her fiancé’s identity: Kiyoka Kudou, a commander apparently so cold and cruel that his previous would-be brides all fled within three days of their engagements. With no home to return to, Miyo resigns herself to her fate—and soon finds that her pale and handsome husband-to-be is anything but the monster she expected. As they slowly open their hearts to each other, both realize the other may be their chance at finding true love and happiness. I wouldn't say that the characters had nothing to them. Just not enough tot stand out. Certainly nothing that would suggest this reimagining of the Cinderella story needed to happen. But lately "old fairy tales but the FMC is more magical" seems to be a popular way of rebooting things. A browbeaten and mistreated daughter is cast out of her home and sent to audition as a bridal candidate for the heir to one of the most powerful families in the land…

But all in all, as I read the story, I didn't feel anything much. Just, meh. The FL suffers her whole life until a male "prince", strong, beautiful and wealthy appears to save her, and he's the only reason she begins to overcome her traumas I question the highlights in the characters' hair (was that even what it was?). The colour choices were so... dubious there. I mean, Kudou seemed to have purple (?) highlights despite having blond hair and it just doesn't look right. It looks like a mistake, but it's a mistake that is consistent and it feels so... off. He's not the only one either, and as the anime goes on, you - or at least, I - noticed it more and more. But that's down to personal taste, I suppose.

First of all, as someone who also has self hatred since I am a child and longer than her (Because I am older than her), I will say that the way this manga portray self hatred is really realistic. Her inner thought is exactly my thought on daily basis. The way she always think in negative way even if someone say something normal, the way she is easily influenced when someone begin to say even a bit of negative thing, the way she always apologize even if she doesn't need to, it's just same as me. Since fantasy was a first for Meme, I was curious as to how he'd do. The result? Honestly, pretty good! He seemed to have completely immersed himself in the role, and he managed to play the cold but secretly warm-hearted Kiyoka pretty well! Seeing that the manga version of Kiyoka had more delicate and soft features, I was worried that the movie version would not provide that big of a "gap moe".
