Yeah, the narrative in "Murder at Yellowstone City" was just too slow paced and uneventful for me, so I didn't enjoy this movie. And I managed to sit through a staggering 59 minutes of pure slow paced nothingness, before I gave up on the movie. Running at 127 minutes, I just saw no reason to continue on with this movie. I must admit that the movie's cover/poster definitely seemed interesting, and the fact that there was names like Gabriel Byrne, Thomas Jane and Richard Dreyfuss on the cast list definitely had me interested. So as I had the opportunity to sit down and watch the 2022 Western "Murder at Yellowstone City" from writer Eric Belgau and director Richard Gray, of course I did so. Yesterday in Mitchido Richard Woods – a wealthy landowner – was shot down in cold blood whilst he was riding to town. He leaves behind his wife Katherine and daughter Annabel. There is a gathering of his family and the townsfolk to discuss what should be done. The people at the meeting look uneasy. They are not sure who will be arrested as the murderer and they are afraid that the gunslingers that are present might take the law into their own hands if they don’t like the verdict. She (Margaret Read) embellished the theme by bringing along a rather large basket completely covered with a little blanket. The contents of this basket remained closely guarded until she dramatically revealed the contents. The secret love child of Spring Leaf and ???? that she was raising for our Indian Maid!! The child, a Indian papoose doll, was named Squash Bottom right after Margaret had to change her first diaper! Richard and I went to school together. He was one of the school bullies and used to beat me up all the time when I was younger. Later, when I had grown up to be taller than him and learned how to box, he stopped beating me up. But the resentment was still there. My father was the town Sheriff and he was grooming me to take over from him. Richard’s father was doing the same. He was a landowner. Richard’s father and my father were great friends, so we had to be civil to one another. It wasn’t till I was about to take over from my Dad, that I realized why he had been great friends with Richard’s Dad. It was because Richard’s Dad always gave him a supplement to his Sheriff’s wages. I protested to my Dad that it was unethical, but he said it was the tradition and that if I wasn’t courteous enough to accept Richard’s Dad’s generosity, then he wouldn’t recommend me to become Sheriff when he retired. It's the American Frontier at a time when there were thousands of saloons catering to thirsty, lonely cowboys. There are references to alcohol, whiskey and (false?) accusations that players were drunk. The interrogation is held inside the Deadstone Saloon. The idea was fun, the characters were unique and funny to play. The way it was written was somewhat confusing especially the clues. But after a few stumbles we figured it out. Probably would be better with an all adult group, it was a little long for the girls at my daughter’s birthday party. They are 10-11. And although this was recommended for teens/adults. I feel like an all adult group would appreciate it more. I was hoping that it would invlove moving about the house to discover clues or something but it was just reading mostly. A lot of printing invloved, can really tell the thought that went into it. The posters were super fun. The girls enjoyed the western theme, we had cowboy hats and lots of old western style guns to play with.

We played this game with 3 generations and everyone loved it! It's definitely more fun if you have props and western style dinner as the game suggests. We got through it per the timeline but could have extended play for a lot longer, since none of us are trained actors.
