I tried Snoop's Cali Red not too long ago and was pleasantly surprised by how accessible a red wine it was so when I found out there was now a rose on the market I knew I had to try it. There's no mystery as to where the wine comes from with a name like Cali by Snoop Cali Rose. The 17-time Grammy-nominated artist has launched a new brand of breakfast cereal called Snoop Loopz across the United States. The winery’s main focus are red blends made from grape varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Grenache, Durif and Mourvèdre. On the palate, it was sugar and acid. Like someone melted a watermelon jolly rancher and dumped it into a kiwi-strawberry Snapple, then added a bit of rubbing alcohol, just for the buzz.
Snoop, obviously, wasn’t one of the convicts who built Australia, but his addition aims to bring a more modern-day element to the brand’s wine selection. "Snoop embodies the spirit of 19 Crimes–rule breaking, culture creating and overcoming adversity,” marketing vice president of the Americas for Treasury Wine Estates John Wardley said in an announcement. The candied flavour however does make the wine feel sweeter than it is and I do think there's an audience out there that this is perfect for. In the early Aughts, Snoop partnered with Cognac house Landy for a fun ad campaign, and in 2020, he officially launched his own gin and a wine collaboration with 19 Crimes. Starting with a Cali Red, the partners have since expanded into a Cali Rosé, a Cali Blanc (Sauvignon Blanc) and a Cali Gold white blend. The rosé is part of Snoops multi-year partnership with 19 Crimes, a line of wines inspired by the convicts-turned-colonists who built Australia. The release comes almost a year after their debut launch Snoop Cali Red, which was the top-selling wine innovation of 2020, according to a press release.
