About this deal

This means we can select the most suitable, scientifically developed product to match our horse’s circumstances and optimise both his health and his performance. The primary reason for combining a calmer and a feed balancer is that stress and digestion have a symbiotic relationship; stress can cause digestive issues, and digestive issues can cause stress. The probiotics in the balancer restore the natural balance of the gut flora and help to maintain the natural well-being of the digestive system, allowing optimum utilisation of the carefully formulated combination of vitamins, minerals and nutrients present in all the Blue Chip Balancers. Whole grain and molasses free.

It is therefore important to understand what you are feeding when considering a combination of nutritional supplements, compound feeds and feed balancers particularly if the horse is in harder work.

Oils - Soya oil and linseed oil. Natural, vegetable sources of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Combined with organic zinc the oils ensure healthy, scurf-free skin and a glossy, gleaming coat. L-tryptophan - Karma is enhanced with L-tryptophan. This essential amino acid is required for the formation of proteins and some hormones, including serotonin. Serotonin is the ‘feel-good’, ‘anti-stress’ hormone. Additional energy sources in the form of straights or compound feeds can be added alongside the balancer if the horse is in harder work. Help to avoid deficiencies in your horse’s diet So, when might you need a horse feed balancer? If you follow the recommend cube compound mix according to your horse’s activity levels and weight, you shouldn’t need to supplement the feed with anything more than what you already give him. It is easy to give our horses too many nutrients by feeding such a mixture of products and, with supplements, it is not always the case that more is better. While some surplus nutrients will simply be excreted from the body, others, such as selenium and vitamins A and D, can cause toxicity problems if fed in excess.

Blue Chip Calming - a feed balancer with added calming supplements, removing the need for additional supplementation, saving you money, and ensuring your pony/horse receives the necessary nutrients whilst staying stress free. SoundHoof™ - Like all Blue Chip balancers, Calming contains a complete hoof supplement with biotin, methionine, lysine, organic zinc and organic copper. This is ideal for the formation of strong, pliable, good quality hooves. What are Super Concentrated Balancers? A highly nutrient dense, pelleted functional balancer range, formulated to be fed in a small quantity to support weight management, alongside a fibre based diet as nature intended. Manufactured with the same high quality protein, vitamins, minerals, nutrients and probiotics as the rest of the Blue Chip Balancer range.

Special offers and product promotions

The demand for feed balancers reflects a greater understanding of nutrition and gut health. The feed industry has made great strides in understanding equine physiology and the importance of providing a more natural, high-fibre diet. Re magnesium calmers, personally I do not find them very effective as the vast majority of horses in the UK are not deficient (aside from the two groups mentioned above). A triptophan based product is much more likely to bring results, as can cutting out starch and feeding a probiotic. If owners opt for the highest possible specification of feed and then use it with other ready-balanced feeds and vitamin and mineral supplements, they could push the horse’s nutritional balance over the edge, potentially causing toxicity. Balancers help to keep things simple

Niacin (vitamin B3) - Niacin is a B complex vitamin required for optimum energy and protein utilisation, allowing energy to be channelled into the appropriate areas. The soluble source of niacin used in Karma is readily utilised by the horse. Feed balancers are ideal for the modern horseowner because they can provide a simple solution to so many common problems. They combine key nutrients – to promote a healthy coat and strong hooves, for example – which means you don’t need to add further supplements. In addition, the ingredients are concentrated, so a small amount offers maximum feed utilisation and fibre digestion. Which balancer should I feed my horse?

Customer reviews

The majority the problems you mention are not caused by nutritionists bringing out 'crap' products, rather they are caused by owners overfeeding their horses, the majority of leisure horses in this country do not need 'hard' feed, they simply do not work hard enough, most would do well on fibre and a vit/min supplement or a balancer. The horseowner who feeds a compound feed plus a feed balancer, and then throws in a broad spectrum vitamin-mineral supplement or a vitamin E and selenium supplement for good measure, for example, certainly doesn’t sit down and calculate the amount of selenium his horse is getting. Double-action digestive supplement - In addition to the active calmers listed above, a double-action digestive supplement will settle the digestive system ensuring horses feel comfortable and relaxed. Calming balancer combines a high concentration of probiotics with nucleotides. This supplement is proven to increase forage digestibility by up to 100% in a study conducted by Hartpury College. The equine feeding industry has been big business for many years. Continual technological breakthroughs mean improved formulations and a wider choice of products.
