Towards the end of the movie we finally get some supernatural action but it is really too late to save it and not really that impressive to begin with. The only remotely interesting thing about this film? Rourke plays the devil incarnate. Which, if you've ever seen his 1987 psychological thriller "Angel Heart," is an interesting twist. Unfortunately this film isn't remotely similar to Angel Heart in any other regard, which was one of the best films of the 1980s in this humble critic's opinion; Dead in Tombstone, by contrast, is Dead On Arrival (har, har) and a truly bad film. The story is not too bad but a little disjointed. Some of the events feel made up as they went along as if they could not film what they wanted but still had to do something since the cameras were there. The acting is better than you would expect from a direct video release. Trejo once again is great as a Western tough guy. But then again Danny Trejo is always good. Unrated Cut of the Film: The Blu-ray edition of Dead in Tombstone features two stabs at the film: a 100-minute unrated cut and a 100-minute R-rated cut. It's already a bit redundant to issue both a rated and unrated cut on a direct-to-video release, but with both being the same length, the differences amount to little. The unrated cut is even six seconds shorter. Notable: Dean McDermott as Dr Goldsworthy who we suspect is something more than human and he tries to have Guerrero reject Lucifer's hold on him. Supernatural, remember?

The unrated, direct to video Dead In Tombstone gets a simultaneous Blu-ray and DVD release on October 22nd. Wow, this was far more entertaining than I ever could have imagined! This is a wonderful blend of action, adventure, western, horror and fantasy. The cinematography and photography are stunning! Later in the film there's also some really creepy sound effects. 'Dead in Tombstone' is essentially a vengeance film, but a very different kind of vengeance film, which was refreshing. Though the screenplay written by Brendan Cowles and Shane Kuhn is pretty standard fair when it comes to the classic plot of a Western revenge film, they do manage to put a twist on the old formula. It also helps that the film was cast not only with three incredible main actors, but also a strong supporting cast that includes Dina Meyer, Richard Dillane, Emil Hostina, Colin Mace, Ovidiu Niculescu, Ronan Summers, Edward Akrout and Radu Andrea Micu, all of whom help to strengthen the film’s dialog that at times could have come off as unintelligent if spoken by actors of a lesser caliber. The greatest weakness of the movie is also its greatest strength; Kilmer's Holliday (and Bein's Johnny Ringo to an extent) steal the show from Russel's Wyatt Earp who is the main protagonist of the film. Powers Booth and a familiar cast of actors take on the roles of the no good "cowboys". Sam Elliot, Bill Paxton and the rest of the cast deliver.

All have been direct-to-video, including a couple of the 'Death Race' sequels and 'The Scorpion King 3'. Not exactly the cream of the crop. His problem is that he doesn't really know how to direct his actors as well as shoot any type of action scene that is thrilling or coherent. And with 'Dead in Tombstone', these are the aspects that make this would be fun-as-hell film fail. Reiné includes plenty of typical shootouts and duels, but also detonates as much dynamite as possible, creating massive explosions, and lets Trejo get his hands dirty in some physical bar fights. Some people Danny’s age are using walkers and sitting lifelessly in front of the television, yet here he is throwing dudes twice his size over a bar. Reiné knows what it takes to make an entertaining shoot em’ up film, and focuses on those moments to drive a ho-hum story along – starting with the casting of Danny Trejo. Dutch born Roel Reiné has already proven himself to be a top-notch action director with movies like Death Race 2 and 12 Rounds: Reloaded. Roel started a new era in Dutch Cinema by making mainstream English language ‘Genre Movies’ with his company Rebel Film and has been very successful at doing them with modest budgets. His latest directorial release is no exception.Is there a giant explosion in the film? Yes. Which surprisingly looks good. And are there humans riding horses at top speeds covered in fire? Yes there are. So if this is the type of western film, you're wanting, then by all means you'll have a good time with this. But be wary of the one-note characters, the poor dialogue and the awful action sequences. As with Roel's other films, and as he discusses in the extras, he tends to set up multiple cameras during the action scenes so he can film everything in one go around and be done with it. The results are disastrous and don't transfer well to the final product. Instead of a coherent and well made action sequence, we get a jumbled mess of a film where we are trying to figure out what is really going on. I find the whole thing swings in appearance from TV movie level visuals to full blown movie level visuals. The horse/carriage chase sequence looked stupid simply because you can easily tell nothing is moving very fast, in fact they are all 'galloping' very slowly behind a very slow carriage hehe. Sometimes you can see the pistols aren't really doing anything and the actors are whipping them around a bit unconvincingly, oh and I love how they keep on shooting way past their six bullet limit. The devils lair of hell seems to be a simple medieval stonewalled basement with an open fire and the devil himself in Rourke looks very errr...normal but fat. Trejo is one of the most recognizable American actors working today, with a huge number of action movies under his belt. The second cousin of famed director Robert Rodriguez, the two have collaborated on 10 different films, notably on Spy Kids, Machete and its sequel, Once Upon a Time in Mexico and From Dusk to Dawn.
