About this deal

Your books are hugely popular and there’s even talk about them being made into a TV series! What do you think readers love about your books? The subject is near to Nancy’s heart, since she comes from a long line of shipbuilders that were well-known in the area. I have recently discovered gardening – something I used to avoid like the plague. I’m a convert and now bore anyone who will listen to me about how wonderful it is to be out in the fresh air, pulling weeds, and creating something with my hands instead of my head. Nancy Revell brings her superb series about Sunderland’s finest to a triumphant end with the final mesmerizing installment, Three Cheers for the Shipyard Girls. Yes it was – really interesting. I loved learning about people’s experiences of living through the war, rationing, fashion, culture, and how life changed for women.

Victory for the Shipyard Girls” is the fifth novel in the “Shipyard Girls” series and was released in the year 2018. Sunderland in 1942. With the war showing zero signs of letting up. Helen’s thriving in her role as manager of the shipyard. However at home the return of her dad brings a startling discovery that rips her family apart. It will take great strength and friendship if the shipyard girls are to weather the storms to come.

Retailers:

Gloria is smitten with her newly arrived bundle of joy, but baby Hope’s first weeks are bittersweet. Hope's father is missing at sea, and with their future as a family so uncertain, Gloria must lean on her girls for support. And as Polly grows with child, she hopes against hope for a safe delivery - and that her husband Tommy can soon return from the front line to meet their new arrival. During the day, Rosie (head welder) teaches her fledgling group of trainees their new trade, however at night she hides Rosie's squad of welders must work gruelling hours in the yard as they prepare for the Allied invasion of Normandy. All the while Rosie herself waits anxiously for news of her husband Peter, who is carrying out dangerous work as an undercover operative in France. It was! Very emotional. I also felt quite nervous when I first started plotting and writing as I knew it had to be the best yet – the series had to go out with a big bang. As I neared the end of the book that apprehension was replaced by a feeling of joy as the women’s stories reached their conclusions – as they ended a chapter in their lives and embarked on a new one. I hope my readers will feel that there’s a real celebratory feel to the final book and an excitement for the future.

At the end of the day, what I really want people to take from this book is the feeling of hope. Hope for the future, hope for your life and hope for yourself.” When speaking about what she wants readers to take away from this novel, Nancy talks about hope and being drawn into this new world and new era of the series at Cuthbert Manor. Angie is to be married to Quentin and with that the final escape from her family and the behaviours of her parents. Little does she know, she will end up with a ready made family as soon as she is married.

And the shipyards are proving tougher than Polly ever imagined, while she waits for her man to return home safely. These women didn’t just inspire me to write this series, but they also inspire me as I go about my daily life. Set in January 1945, after five tumultuous years working in the shipyards in Sunderland, spring is in the air and with it the hope of victory at last. Wedding bells are finally ringing for Gloria but she can’t rest until her youngest son has been safely returned to her.

At this stage to go into the various characters and all the issues and problems they have would be fruitless given this is the last book and that everything they have been through and the hold a certain person has over them is reaching its endpoint. Needless to say, these women welders and both their friends and families have been through the mill since the outbreak of war but the end point is in sight. They just need to push through these final few months and hopefully emerge victorious on the other side. As world events progress at a rapid pace so too does the personal lives of each character that I have come to know and love. There are plenty of problems and situations, both good and bad, that need an outcome to be found be it positive or negative. The author gets straight down to action, and you get the sense she has a lot she wants to say and cover and gets on with it right from the outset. That’s not to say things felt rushed or brushed neatly under the carpet. Given the length of the series to do this now at this stage would seem futile and just such a let-down for readers who have been with the girls since the beginning. No, thankfully that didn’t happen at all and the pacing and revelations were all perfect and at times you have a smile on your face to see certain characters getting the comeuppance you have longed to see them receive. Head-welder Rosie is just about managing to keep her double life hidden from little sister Charlotte's prying eyes. But Charlotte senses something is up and, with a secret this big, the truth is bound to come out. Of course there is some unfinished business with Helen and her family secrets which are still going to affect all the women she employs. Can she possibly keep it together to protect those she cares about. And will anyone ever care about her for who she is and not what she might bring to a relationship? The biggest character arc has been Helen, who in the first novel was awful to the women, but through finding herself has become a key part of the women's group. And it is these women who step in to help Helen make the right choices over the man she loves. I was on the edge of my seat, waiting to see how this plays out.
