Die Erklärung von Ernst H. im Wortlaut (The explanation by Ernst Holzapfel in his wording)" (in German). ORF (broadcaster) (online). 30 August 2006. Archived from the original on 14 July 2011 . Retrieved 1 October 2006. Natascha described Priklopil as having symptoms of schizophrenia and a split personality. Plus, one of the major questions that came up after the case was initially closed was whether Priklopil had an accomplice. Though Natascha never mentioned any other conspirator to her kidnapping and police reports as well as separate investigations by German authorities and the FBI concluded that there was no proof pointing to an accomplice, the only eyewitness to the kidnapping stated that she saw 2 people in the van that kidnapped Natascha. She made a happy, relaxed impression. I didn't, of course, realise that it was Natascha Kampusch. It was only when I was questioned by the police that they showed me a photo and I realised it was her.'

A couple of years on, the cellar was filled in but Natascha continued to visit the house, spending a couple of nights a week there. In 2016, 10 years after her escape, it was reported that she still kept the house obsessively clean and looking like it did originally. However, in 2019, she wanted to sell the house to a group of refugees but could not get permission from the neighbors and the Mayor to do so, and continues to be the owner of the house. a b c "Girl relives kidnap ordeal on TV". BBC News Online. 7 September 2006 . Retrieved 23 August 2007.I was so impressed with Natascha. I felt that she told the story of her abduction, her escape, and her re-entry into society, with great care, and skill. I totally support her choice to not reveal everything that took place during those years. To me, her refusal typifies the strength of character that she most certainly possesses. In this undated Police handout a hidden room in the house and hiding place of kidnapped Natascha Kampusch in a Vienna Suburb. Natascha was 10 years old when she disappeared seemingly without trace, on March 2, 1998, from near her home in Vienna. A huge police investigation took place, spanning not just Austria, but reaching much further abroad. Eight years later, Natascha was found alive and the truth of her years missing spread rapidly. Her story spawned many conspiracy theories, and later inconsistencies meant that the truth of her time in captivity was sometimes shaky. With the documentary attempting to reveal the truth, we look at what happened to Natascha Kampusch, and the whereabouts of her kidnapper.Elkins, Ruth (27 August 2006). Further details emerge of an Austrian kidnapping case". The Raw Story. 25 August 2006. Archived from the original on 26 October 2006 . Retrieved 30 August 2006. If I wanted to survive in this new world, I had to cooperate with him. For somebody who has never been in such an extreme situation of oppression, this may be difficult to comprehend. But today I am proud of the fact that I was able to take this step towards the person who had robbed me of everything. Because that step saved my life even though I had to dedicate more and more energy to maintaining this 'positive approach' to the kidnapper." On 17 February 2010, the British TV network Channel 5 broadcast an hour-long documentary about the case, including an exclusive interview with Kampusch: Natascha: The Girl in the Cellar. An Adolescence Spent In Captivity

The First Post: Victim or villain: Austria decides". The First Post. 20 September 2006. Archived from the original on 12 October 2006. Natascha Maria Kampusch (born 17 February 1988) is an Austrian author and former talk show host. At the age of 10, on 2 March 1998, she was abducted and held in a secret cellar by her kidnapper Wolfgang Přiklopil for more than eight years, until she escaped on 23 August 2006. Upon her escape, Přiklopil killed himself by stepping in front of a train at a nearby station. She has written a book about her ordeal, 3,096 Days (2010), which was later adapted into a film released in 2013. On a hot summer day in a small Austrian town, a very agitated young woman ran up to an elderly man out walking with two friends. Breathing heavily and repeatedly looking over her shoulder, she babbled that she had been kidnapped. It was the diary entries made by Natascha when she was captive that are the most telling. The verbal and physical abuse and degradation of a young girl for his perverted benefit. There is a lot that she did not want to re-visit in this book and who can blame her although it did come out in the public domain at a later stage. What is in the book is enough for the reader to understand what the poor girl went through for over 8 years. I was willing her on with her escape even though you know it happens. ‘I had chosen life. Only death remained for the kidnapper’. Paterson, Tony (16 March 2007). "Kampusch mother accused of kidnap to hide sex abuse". The Independent. London. Archived from the original on 19 March 2007 .
