About this deal

I don’t think it will be too long before Trading Standards are involved in these ISP speed declarations. If you're having trouble with your broadband speed the device you’re using could be the cause of the slow speed. If possible try using another device to see if you’re having a similar problem on that one too. Wireless broadband routers transmit from all directions in a circle. This means the more centrally you can place it, the better your overall coverage will be. Putting your router near a window means that you're broadcasting outside as well as inside, and sending some of your strongest broadband connection – quite literally – out the window. 2 - Avoid the kitchen

I would prefer to have even a simpler OR ONT with an ethernet port which allows an Ethernet cable to link to routers, and to an ethernet switch to which to attach other devices. Incidentally, I was surprised to hear that the old copper line will not be disconnected and will continue to be used for phone calls, in parallel with the fibre line for data. A bit disappointed about that as I’d been hoping I could start to use a VOIP phone with better sound quality over a fibre line.

Step 1: Check your Hub

carry out Voice Re-injection Installation (VRI), which uses existing internal wiring to make use of traditional telephones. My fear is that this might mean that in future we will be limited to copper hook ups to non-BT routers if I ever want to upgrade the modem to an independent brand with more range or features. And am also concerned how OR will get power to an outside wall fitted modem, either under the eaves or down nearer ground level on an outside wall. So exposed to damp etc. So I basically fear this is designed to save OR and BT installation costs, but which will limit my flexibility in future. It sounds strange, but water can absorb the Wi-Fi signal, reducing the distance it can travel. Placing it near a mirror will also cause the wireless radio waves to reflect, which can have a negative impact on performance by scattering and distorting the signal. It's not just mirrors, either. Be wary of stainless steel countertops, filing cabinets, or any other flat, reflective surfaces. 6 - Avoid electronic items Learn about what the lights on the Openreach fibre modem mean and what to do if they show that there's a problem.

There’s a couple of things you'll need to do to get the best results. You'll need to use a laptop or desktop to run the test, so if you're on an iPhone or iPad you should switch to a computer. Then: This whole thing is, as I’ve said, much more akin to cable / HFC network layout than point to point fibre and has to be considered in that way. The only reason cable operators in the USA allow customers to connect their own equipment is because they’re legally obliged and they hate doing it.The BT-Openreach contractors told me that they areinstalling 1.0 Gbps to the estate. The installation has the physical appearance of being FTTdp on the telegraph pole next to my house. You must always plug your Hub into the Openreach modem port PORT 1. If you're connected to PORT 1 but have no internet connection, try plugging the Ethernet cable (red ends) into the next one along. After a few minutes a blue light will show your Hub is ready. On 17 October 2019 , I registered my fibre interest with BT-Openreach and they said, we'll keep you informed on progress in your area, as we include more locations into our plans on a regular basis. But I have noBT-Openreach updates. It’s like buying a Formula 1 Van to do the school run, of course it will go the stated speed of 500mph or whatever but the local quality of roads don’t allow it etc etc.
