About this deal

Tiagra 4700 is the latest groupset from Shimano to get a makeover, and in doing so it has made Tiagra the best it's ever been. On its own, it's not quite as good as the more expensive 105, but if you're buying a new bike with Tiagra 4700, you won't be disappointed. is also available in a direct mount option (you need to have a compatible frame and fork) where the brake arms bolt straight on to the frame/fork rather than via a central bolt. There is no Tiagra direct mount option. Disc brakes It's not as simple as upgrading your Tiagra groupset components one at a time. You can't make the 10 and 11-speed parts work together. Whereas gear cables used to come out of the side of the shifter body and arc externally to the frame, the 4700 shifter cables are routed under the bar tape. However, a triple chainset is only available with Tiagra so that is something Tiagra has over 105. Dual Pivot Brakes

Due to the fact that Shimano uses a 160mm rotor, you won't need to apply lots of pressure to the brakes.

SunRace MS8 Wide-Ratio Cassette

no offence, but it was obvious fact since the 47.. came out, that it uses a different actuation ratio as that of older 10 spd components. That all adds up to 2,584g, although cables will add another 200g or so. Conclusion: Is Tiagra worth the money? so I do not even get, why did you even try to do such a mix. A 11spd 5800 derailleur works well with 4700 shifters, but it is well known, that older 10spd components are with a different ratio (shorter cable pull-larger actuation ratio of the derailleur)

Welcome to the latest edition of road.cc’s comparison of Shimano's popular Tiagra and 105 groupsets. We've taken an in-depth look at the pros and cons of the two groups and listed the best-priced source of components that we can find. Tiagra is a really impressive groupset. To get this level of performance, finish and attention to detail on such an affordable groupset is hugely impressive. Aside from the chainset, the new shifters are the most visible change from the previous Tiagra groupsets. The gear indicator windows have been lost and the size and shape are much like 105. Admittedly, the Tiagra shifting isn't as light but it's forgivable considering the price difference. With a 105 set-up, it does come with a direct mount option - you will need to ensure that your fork and frame are compatible. A direct-mount option means that the brake arms won't need a central bolt to attach to. Instead, they can be bolted straight to the fork/frame.

Chainset

Shimano says: "For the first time in its history TIAGRA supports internal cable routing, which gives the road bike a much more clean and professional look. Along with internal cable routing TIAGRA has also adopted the iconic four-arm crank design which is available in the popular gear combination for entry level riders of 52-36T and 50-34T. With the standard pitch cycle (bolt circle) diameter of 110mm both chain ring combinations are interchangeable because they fit on the same crank set. It's a groupset that can give you what you want from a mid-tier road bike. Sure, there are a few niggles but they are tiny and can be overlooked.
