After soaking, DO NOT RINSE OR DRY THE HOOF; cover the hoof with an empty plastic bag, seal the top, and allow vapours to penetrate for 30-60 minutes Pictured Above: Bacteria and fungi keep each other in regulated balance in a healthy foot. In an unhealthy foot, they take advantage of the rich blood supply and create an infection in the stratum medium. My mare has had approximately 6 in the past year (a few popping up in the same place as the abscess before and so Im clearly not getting everything out!) Any one of those could also have gone towards causing this I think - as I really do think i've got control of his diet so would like to be able to rule that out as a cause!

A drop of chain lube on threads of tension knobs will keep it running smoothly (Image credit: Courtesy) For deeper infections soak a hoof for 45 minutes (you will be able to deep soak two hooves in the 90 minutes the solution is active) This is an archived Horseadvice.com Discussion. The parent article and menus are available on the navigation menu below: Before use, remove shoes or anything else on the foot. If the horse is going to be shod, clean and prepare the hoof for shoeing first.Won't get into the different prods/chemicals, except to say that especially if thrush is deep, close or into live tissue, you need to be careful what you use to kill infection, that it doesn't also damage/retard live tissue growing. Strong chemicals, including some astringent essential oils can do that. Believe it or not, raw honey & salt, or even just a salt slurry, are great for deep thrush. But 'WLD' aka 'Seedy toe' is generally only in (dead) wall material, and it's insidious, so it is safe - and pays - to hit it hard IME. I'd save 'koppertox'& other 'big guns' for that. After soaking, DO NOT RINSE OR DRY THE HOOF. Put an empty plastic bag over the hoof and close the top. Allow the vapours to penetrate for 45 minutes.

After use, the solution can be spread on the stable floor to eliminate bacteria, fungi, and spores which could reinfect the hoof.

Insert the hoof into the CleanTrax solution and soak for 30 minutes; if the infection is severe or recurring, increase soak time to 45-90 minutes. NOTE: CleanTrax solution is effective for a total of 90 minutes, so 1-3 hooves can be soaked consecutively by moving the solution to another hoof HorseAdvice.com» Diseases of Horses» Lameness» Diseases of the Hoof» White Line Disease or Onychomycosis»

years later, after the initial 6 soaks every 6 weeks, the horse is fine..no more wall separation, seedy toe or anything unusual, and shod and ridden like a normal horse. I just got my girls feet done last night and the farrier told me that both have thrush (which I figured as much) but also the beginning of White Line. She told me it is very very mild and isn't a cause for worry but to take care of it. I love my girls, so obviously I will! Theoretically, treatment for white line disease should be simple — kill infection-causing bacteria and fungi. In reality, treating white line disease can be far more complicated. Was the horse whose feet you soaked shod? Is it Ok to use on a shod horse or must they be barefoot for the full effect?

Never used Cleantrax myself, so can't advise on how effective it is. I've heard good things though.

Organic Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) Soaks, Oregano Oil, Tea Tree Oil - All of these have their fans too! There is a wide variety of ways to use oils topically, and ACV makes an extremely mild and effective soak for mild thrush, yeast and shedding frog problems. There are plenty of soaks out there for thrush, abcesses and general hoof care, many do a pretty good job. But if you know a bit about us here at Intelligent Horsecare you’ll know that pretty good just isn’t good enough. We don’t just want animal safe, we want to know that what we choose to use on our horses has the weight of science behind it and has been tested as safe to use on us humans first. Immerse the hoof completely into the CleanTrax solution. If using a bag, pull it up above the knee and tie/or tape it closed. (Vetrap works well for this). One other thing it says best used fresh but can be refrigerated for up to 14 days. I wonder if you could do that with Clean Trax. I am sure they would say no because they want you to buy more product. d. Wedging to correct low heels without also supporting the frog and caudal structures at the same time.
