About this deal

Hi, we had an extension built earlier this year. Per building regulations, we had extractor fans installed in each new bathroom, cloakroom and utility. Each extractor has its own electrical isolator switch and, to be honest, we usually leave them permanently off. Smaller items will be delivered using Royal Mail 24. Larger items delivered via FedEx or ParcelForce. If you’ve already got a standard vent fitted – there’s already a hole drilled through the wall for airflow. This makes things really easy. All I'm asking is whether there is a safe and simple method of stopping the cheap bits of plastic that pass for external covers on these things from rattling like a banshee whenever a squirrel farts in the woods to the side of my house.

I had thought of simply putting some tape over the vents on the outside, just to seal them shut. Since we have a pebbledash render on the walls, it seemed easier, and maybe more effective, than fitting a cowl like this: Hi, You said it would take 15 minutes to fit, and I did it in 7. And the effects were immediate!” B.T. Cardiff.Do you think I could tape up the vents upstairs by taking the inside cover (including fan) off, reaching through and applying tape from the inside? The unique DR21 vent is the solution ? this new product allows only the air that is needed to enter your room. Even a high wind or forced air won?t be a problem as shown in the video. At ?29.99 our unique patented vent will pay for itself in no time, as you won?t need to try harder to heat a draughty room. Replacing a bathroom vent, such as the one with the flaps which rattle all night. Should be a straight swap. The vent has the same fixing holes as a standard louvred vent, so retro fitting one takes minutes, and it accepts all the standard tubes, ducting etc. Remove the standard louvered vent – you may need to unscrew some screws to do this, or break the sealant seal depending on how it has been fitted.

Peter, you say that one would normally only open a window in warm weather. This is exactly my point, though. The nature of these extractors and the external vents is such that I effectively have a hole the size of a transom window open PERMANENTLY in several rooms of my house, since the extractors cannot properly be closed. The DR21 acts as a like for like swap – you fit it onto the outside wall in place of the existing vent. There’s no fancy mechanism or any moving parts that could get damaged. Just an incredibly clever design that causes the air to move in a zig zag pattern, slowing the rate of air flow down when the demand for oxygen is low, instantly reducing those terribly cold air leaks. If you’re about to have a wood burning stove or other appliance fitted then it’s very likely the installer will need to drill a hole through the wall behind the stove to ensure the product has sufficient ventilation. In this case simply provide them with the DR21 and request that they fit this instead of a louvered vent, they will be able to do this for you no problem! We get a lot of customers complaining about the draught that comes through air vents. The air vent is there to provide enough oxygen for your appliances when they are burning fuel. If they don’t get enough oxygen they produce carbon monoxide which is a killer. So the air vent is pretty useful when you’ve got a fire lit. But what about all the rest of the time, when the fire isn’t lit and there’s still a howling gale blowing through? Wouldn’t it be great to have something that restricted the air flow and prevented those annoying draughts? Ta daaa! We introduce the DR21, invented by David Gattie, a stove fitter with customers putting just such a complaint to him on a regular basis.
