About this deal

Most of the time, your dog wouldn’t end up liking the expensive dog bed you just got him. And there goes all your money in the drain or in a corner, lying by itself. Instead of facing that disappointment, make your dog a perfect bed by staying within your budget. simplymaggie 14. How to Sew a Dog Bed – Free Pattern Now take the case to your sewing machine and sew along both the top and bottom long edge and along one short edge. These more familiar scents will encourage your dog to use the new bed. You may also want to consider giving your dog treats whenever it uses its new bed, or throwing a few of its favorite toys in the bed. Pin the remaining large rectangle in place to create the last side of the dog bed. Sew around almost all of the rectangle, leaving part of one side open for stuffing. Also available with orthopaedic foam bases, Cozy Caves are perfect for older dogs who need a little extra support and relief from pressure points.

Cut out the pattern for your fabric based on your desired length and width of the bolster. The width will be the circumference of your rolled batting plus four inches. You can use the same fabric you used for the bed, or mix it up with a different color or different type of fabric. The unique poly-fill material is designed to prevent clumping and shifting, so the bed maintains its original shape. Due to its soft and plush design, this is ideal for small dog breeds that love to tunnel and burrow. It’s also completely machine-washable, making it easy to keep your dog’s bed clean and odor-free. We started making luxury dog beds by designing The Dog Cave Bed. We soon realised not all dogs used their beds in the same way – many dogs needed a particular style and shape of dog bed to help them feel cosy, safe and secure. Proper size for your dog – You can’t just buy a large cave dog bed for a smaller dog. The whole purpose of a cave dog bed is for it to wrap around your dog and almost “hug” it, creating a cozy and comfortable, den-like area for your pup. If the bed is too big for them, this effect is ruined. Before you start shopping, highly recommend measuring your dog from the tip of its nose to the base of its tail, and measure its height when it’s sitting, too. This will help you choose the right bed for its needs. It’s also machine-washable, making it easier to deal with any “accidents” or stains, and keep it clean and hygienic for your dog. It also includes a plush cushion, which provides a comfortable, ergonomic surface for your furry friend.Helps reduce stress and increase comfort – Many dogs who have anxiety problems will benefit from enhanced comfort when sleeping in an enclosed dog bed. An enclosed bed helps surround the dog and make it feel more comfortable and save, which results in higher-quality sleep – and less anxiety and stress. Sew Velcro to the unfinished side of the top closure flap, near the finished edge. The stitching will be externally visible, so use a threat that compliments the fabric, not the Velcro. Sewing Velcro can sometimes be a bit fiddly, so I personally prefer using the loop side on this exposed position as it is the easier sew and will have neater looking stitching on the outside.

With a warm and enveloping built-in cover, Snoozer Cozy Caves are hugely popular for whippets -- and their owners! However, if you have an older dog who is well-trained and does not have a tendency to chew, putting an enclosed dog bed in its crate could make it feel more comfortable and cozy. The thin strips are for the sides of the bed. Each strip matches one of the sides of the larger rectangles. Set one of the larger rectangles aside. Pin the side strips to the remaining rectangle, matching the size according to the size of the side (long strips on long sides, shorter strips on shorter sides). Be sure to place the right sides of the fabric together. Sew the strips in place where you pinned them, using a half-inch seam allowance.

The interior is lined with a fleece material, while the exterior is covered in a durable, soft faux suede material. The inside is fully lined with a fluffy polyester fiber filling, and it’s available in several colors which will match just about any color scheme. Ideal for dogs with separation anxiety – Enclosed dog beds can be helpful for dogs who have separation anxiety. If you notice your dog performing “digging” or “tunneling” behaviors when it’s anxious, an enclosed dog bed may be a good option. The cave-like atmosphere of the dog bed will help them feel safe and secure, and they’ll have a place where they can “tunnel” and feel comfortable. I neglected to take photos of this step during my DIYs here. It really helps having a photo explanation, so I hunted down a nice clear how-to box a corner at Sew 4 Home that will help if this is a new technique for you. The same technique is used for any type of boxed corner, and Something Turquoise’s tote bag DIY has a brilliant photo explanation of how to do it. Very sorry about that! I’ll be sure to take additional photos and add them in future posts. Finishing the covers for use: Budget Friendly: This is one of the most affordable enclosed dog cave beds on the market, and it’s ideal for both toy and small-sized dogs as well as puppies. It uses a unique, long tubular design, which wraps around your pup and keeps it feeling safe and comfortable.

If you have a crate-trained dog and you’ve noticed it prefers to stay in its crate or won’t use its dog bed, a covered dog bed is a good option. The liner and cover are built with a soft fleece material, and can be removed from the bed for machine washing, making it easy to care for this dog bed. Uniquely, the polyester fill includes cedar fiber, which helps control odor and keeps insects away from the bed. If you're hoping to reclaim your bed and give your dog a warm and cosy place of their own, a Snoozer Cozy Cave Dog Bed might be the ideal bed for them! Measure out the length and width of the pillow and add one inch to the height and six inches to the length. In other words, a standard king size pillow is 20 x 36 inches. Therefore your fabric width will be 21 x 42 inches. Standard pillow sizes and their accompanying pattern sizes are:Make a fold at 4-½ inches in and 9 inches in. Then pin these folds to the bed section, making pleats. Now baste the entire section to bed section, and repeat on the other side. Now hand sew the bottom section to the bed. At the corners (intersection of your centre fold and side seams), create a box corner seam by sewing across the intersection. First decide if you will be doing the bolster on all sides of the bed or some of them. Then measure the length of the bolster based on the sides they will be on, plus four inches. For example: Cons: Too small for most non-toy breeds, requires regular reshaping, chewing-prone dogs may ingest polyester fill The two pieces will form the top and bottom of the cover for the pillow. Take one of the pieces and place it flat on your workspace, then lay the second piece on top and pin the top and bottom edges together. Then place the pillow on top to make sure it will fit inside once it's sewn. Baste the two pieces together where you've pinned them.
