About this deal

Bin 27 is a rich, fruity wine made from a blend of reserve wines. It is sold all over the world, with particular popularity in the North American market.

Perhaps more than any other port house, Fonseca has built a loyal community of port wine enthusiasts. These connoisseurs value its individuality and the inimitable character of its wines. These include connoisseurs, collectors, sommeliers and restaurateurs as well as those who simply enjoy drinking its wonderfully rich and complex ports. Fonseca was founded in 1815 and is regarded as one of the most stylistically consistent of the classic Vintage Port Houses. Vintage Port runs like a continuous thread through Fonseca’s history, from the legendary Fonseca 1840 to the superb declared vintages of the present day, their consistency deriving not only from continuity of family involvement and the knowledge and skill passed down from one generation to the next, but also a close link with the vineyard. Throughout the generations, the Fonseca secret has been passed on to the next family member, who imparts richness and structure of both dimension and finesse across the range. As it approaches its bicentenary, Fonseca can take pride in its past and look forward to the future with confidence. Wine drinkers increasingly seek wines of authenticity and character with a genuine story to tell and made by creative winemakers who understand their terroir and respect the environment.Bin 27 shares the heritage and style of the great Fonseca Vintage Ports, as well as much of their depth and character. However it is bottled when ready to drink and can be served by the glass directly from the bottle. Blended for consistency of character and quintessentially Fonseca in style, this reserve blend provides reliable and affordable value. Launched in Britain nearly 50 years ago in 1972, Fonseca Bin 27 continues to be blended from selected reserve Ports chosen for their smooth, round, full bodied palate and their fine, intense fruit character. The wines are matured in large seasoned oak vats to give them smoothness and complexity while retaining their intense and vibrant fruit character. Blended for consistency and quintessentially Fonseca in style, Bin 27 is bottled when ready to drink.

Established in 1815, Fonseca belongs in the first rank of Vintage Port houses. It is regarded as one of the most stylistically consistent of the classic Vintage Port houses and its Ports have been made by five generations of the Guimaraens family since its foundation. This consistency derives not only from continuity of family involvement, and the knowledge and skill passed down from one generation to the next, but also a close link with the vineyard. The firm's three estates of Panascal, Cruzeiro and Santo António are the heart of the distinctive character of Fonseca's Vintage Ports. Fonseca's respect for the vineyard and the unique environment of the Douro Valley expresses itself in the firm's leadership in the field of sustainable viticulture. In 2006 it became the first house to offer a Port made entirely from organically produced grapes. Fonseca is the only Port house with four 100 Point scoring wines. Perhaps more than any other Port producer, Fonseca has built a loyal community of Port enthusiasts who value its individuality and the inimitable character of its wines. Few port producers have maintained such consistency of quality and style from vintage to vintage. From the legendary 1840, Fonseca's first Vintage Port release, to the iconic 1868 and the extraordinary 1927, 1948, 1977 and 1994, all four of them 100-point wines, the house has produced a succession of highly acclaimed wines. It was the first house to offer a port made entirely from organically produced grapes. Fonseca Bin 27 has plenty of peppery grip, good acidity and a very firm structure, all in all though it has a nice style, with good substance to it, plenty of dark, tobacco-laced fruits and an attractive roasted-herb edgeWhite wines, generally crisp, mineral-driven blends of Arinto, Viosinho, Gouveio, Malvasia Fina and an assortment of other rare but local varieties, are produced in small quantities but worth noting. However for many wine enthusiasts around the world Fonseca is best known as the producer of Bin No.27 . This fine reserve port, launched four decades ago, is one of the most popular and successful port blends. It displays the opulent fruity character which defines the Fonseca house style. This is enveloped in the rich succulent jammy flavours and velvety texture of the wines of Panascal and overlaid by the exotic heady scents of Santo António.

Anthony Dias Blue, Tasting Panel, USA, February 2018 – 91 points “A blend of select reserve Ports chosen for their full-bodied palates; dark ruby colour; smooth and dense with toasty notes and rich, ripe, and deep flavours.” First introduced in the 1950s and named after the warm wind which blows over the Mediterranean from North Africa, Siroco is a blend of classic white Port grape varieties grown on the cooler, higher vineyards of the Douro Valley. To achieve its crisp dry finish, the wine is allowed to ferment for longer than other styles of Port before it is fortified. Ageing in small oak vats gives Siroco its smoothness as well as its attractive ripe fruit flavours and delicate nuttiness. Fonseca LBV is the perfect finish to any meal. Excellent with fully flavoured cheeses, especially blue cheeses such as Brie de Meaux or Roquefort. It is delicious with desserts made with chocolate or berry fruits. The wine benefits from being served between 16ºC to 18ºC. The particular qualities of this wine allow it to be enjoyed over an extended period of time once opened, without losing its freshness and vibrancy. Optimum drinking time after opening the bottle is two months.
