About this deal

For my powerlifting-specific friends, you likely already have the preferred deadlift shoes that you like to compete and train in. Furthermore, because your foot isn’t completely flat on the ground, deadlifting in weightlifting shoes can make you feel off-balance. The increased traction advantage of powerlifting shoes is especially important for lifts like the deadlift and snatch, which require a firm grip. When you have a good grip, you can concentrate on the lift rather than fretting about your feet slipping or losing position. While in the gym, you might stumble across many lifters who take their shoes off while deadlifting. So, which is better? The second strap wraps about the top portion of the ankle. At first, I wasn’t sure if I liked this strap, but my views have since changed. I like the additional proprioceptive layer of support it provides when tightened, especially during heavy training sessions.

So not only is it a more ineffective movement pattern, you can risk injury under heavy load. Slipping While Lifting While deadlifting, you need to focus on keeping the weight on your body all the time. This requires your feet to be as flat as possible. They’re able to be so lightweight in large part because the soles are so thin, as I already discussed. Soles on most shoes are the densest and heaviest part of the shoe. When you have the SABOs with 2-3x less sole material than your average sneaker, it’s going to feel super lightweight. The SABO Deadlift Shoes have a 0 millimeter “heel to toe drop,” which is as flat as you can get. Your foot is completely parallel to the floor. Zero drop is ideal for the vast majority of deadlifters because:

Wrapping Up

Position your foot on the paper such that your heel and longest toe are centered on the line. It’s important that you’re standing since your foot will spread out more when bearing your full weight, leading to a more precise measurement. These materials are hard enough and provide your feet with the required support and stability. On the other hand, you should avoid lightweight materials that don’t provide much support. This includes materials like Ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) and foam. Sole Rigidity However, this is quite uncommon as it’s usually lifters with uncommon limb/torso lengths and proportions who find it effective. For this small segment of the lifting population, Olympic lifting shoes are a better footwear choice. Still, if you’re a CrossFitter and strength trainer and you’re looking for a shoe to cover both of those activities, the Nike Metcon 2 may be a better option than the Lite TR.

The last aspect that I enjoy about the SABO Deadlift Shoes is their overall fit and feel. They provide you enough room to splay the toes but don’t feel so wide and loose that you’re swimming around in them. Factor in their double-strap construction and seven eyelets and you have a really supportive model for deadlifting big weight. SABO Deadlift Shoes Sizing Third and lastly, the toe box in this model has a wider and more anatomical shape to it. If you have wide feet or you’re nervous about having a shoe for toe splay, I don’t think that will be a concern in the Adidas The Total. Best for Wide Feet I’ve trained in every single shoe listed here at or above 455 lbs. This is the amount of weight that I’ll use to gauge stability and in most models, I actually end up deadlifting well over 500 lbs in them based on my training cycles. If you try to stand on the paper without a wall to ensure alignment, you could potentially be off by a full size in either direction — I remember trying it that way and getting different sizes each time I measured. Moreover, the higher levels of consistency translate into more training time with proper technique. In other words, you should expect better results and performance. Deadlift Shoes vs. Going Barefoot The best way to ensure you get the perfect size is to measure your feet and then convert that into your correct size. The soles are made of rubber, which has minimal compression. You might not even notice the difference unless you’re lifting super-heavy weights.
