About this deal

Unlike chemical formulations, which take around 20 minutes to become effective, mineral sunscreens also get to work as soon as you apply them. Non-irritant – We’ve all been there. You slather on the sunscreen, and once you get wet, you find it dripping into your eyes, causing the sting of doom. It’s best to choose a sunscreen that promises not to sting. I had the pleasure to have an chat with founder James Marshall himself, he said something that really made sense to me:

SETT is a company first developed by a surfer following a bout of surf rash in 2016. He created a cream to combat the condition, and a natural mineral sunscreen followed this. The company has since grown into an established brand that produces a whole range of natural products. Aqua, zinc oxide (non-nano), glycine max (soybean) oil, titanium di-oxide (non-nano), hydroxy ethyl cellulose (cellulose gum), xanthan gum, glycerol mono stearate, barium sulphate, cetearyl alcohol, glycerin, petroleum jelly, sustainable elaeis guineensis (palm) oil, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, cucumber potpourri, citrullus vulgaris (kalahari melon) oil , simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) oil, argania spinosa (argan) oil, aloe vera extract, vanilla planifolia (vanilla) oil, ascorbic acid (vitamin c), retinyl palmitate (vitamin a), tocopherol acetate (vitamin e). SETT SPF30 Reef Safe Mineral Sunscreen Their natural sunscreen is a broad-spectrum physical sunscreen for sensitive skin. The lotion provides UVA and UVB protection with an SPF50+ rating. It helps keep skin hydrated with cacao seed butter and fatty acids. Aloe Barbadensis helps to soothe stressed skin. It is water-resistant and leaves no white residue on the skin. They’re sometimes referred to as a physical sunscreens and work by absorbing and then deflecting or scattering the UV radiation, as well as absorbing the UV light and releasing it as heat. 1

Reef friendly – Oxybenzone is not only potentially harmful to people but it has also contributed to the destruction of coral reefs. It is so bad that Hawaii has banned the use of sunscreens that contain this chemical. You can do your bit for the environment by avoiding sunscreens that contain it. Water Resistant and Reef Safe – Because we use only zinc oxide and titanium dioxide to combat harmful UV rays, our sunscreens don’t harm aquatic life like chemical sunscreens do. Always reapply after swimming.

Their original water-resistant moisturising sunscreen comes in a spray bottle and dries to a sheer finish on the skin. It has an SPF of 30 and protects from UVA and UVB rays. It contains Vitamin E to prevent premature ageing. It needs to be applied every 2 hours, and people with darker skins may find that the film is noticeable even with the tint. If you’ve struggled to find your SPF soulmate with traditional chemical-based sunscreens, mineral sunscreens could be worth a try.Mineral sunscreens are a form of sun protection for our skin that use minerals instead of chemicals. SETT is proud to meet the world’s toughest regulation across Australia and the EU, so provides you with products you can trust”.

Since sunscreen is so essential for our health, it’s worth taking some time to consider the differences between chemical and mineral sunscreens. Chemical sunscreenOnce upon a time, mineral sunscreens were often written off due to the white ‘cast’ they would leave on the skin. But times have changed! Innovative formulas have changed the game when it comes to mineral sunscreens and there are so many to choose from. Riemann P20 is a famous brand of sunscreen with a longstanding reputation. It started in 1979 when Claus Riemann wanted to help protect a friend with sensitive skin from the sun. The technology he used to design the P20 products is still evident today.

Nivea is one of the world’s leading skincare brands with over 150 years of experience in the industry. It produces deodorants, skincare and sunscreen products across the globe. As the protection is absorbed below the top layer of skin, the UV rays can penetrate the upper layer of skin, potentially causing some damage. You will need to wait about 15 minutes for the product to become effective. The bad news is that surfers are especially at risk due to the length of time we spend outdoors, with our skin exposed to the sun. The reflection of the water increases the chance of sunburn even further. A study carried out in 2015 found that surfers are three times more likely to develop skin cancer than the rest of the population. Now, thanks to technological advances, most mineral sunscreens are so sophisticated you won’t even know you’re wearing them. And because they can be combined with hydrating ingredients, pigment and anti-ageing ingredients such as antioxidants without compromising their efficacy, SPF no longer even needs to be a separate layer in your skincare regime.
