About this deal

Mixes matched to the coating on the metal portions of the airframe of the Mitsubishi-built Zero flown by Lt. Fusata Iida to his death at Kaneohe NAS and to Zero AI-154 that crashed at Fort Kamehameha, Pearl Harbor on December 7 1941.

Spray on with a light color feed and stop when you are satisfied with the color. You can experiment with different mixes. Green has a very strong chroma so very little is needed. The Smoke is used to tone down the clear colors as otherwise they will give a bright "candy apple" phony look. When I go with Tamiya Field Grey TS-78 and Vallejo Gunship Green 70.895 (which seem to be in good balance) I can not use TS-78 for the helmet as well. So I would use my custom mix (Vallejo German Uniform 70.920, Vallejo Gunship Green 70.895 and Vallejo White 70.951). But I think that that it would be too bright in comparison to the Tamiya Field Grey. When I don't mix the colors and use Vallejo German Uniform 70.920 only it looks almost as dark as the Armor and it doesn't look green at all but more like dark grey. So that's the reason why I brightened it up.Brush-applied yellowish-khaki coat over natural metal on Type 99 Val shot down in Middle Loch, Pearl Harbor. Tail code AII-251.

I would like to know what colours are used on this vehicle. I believe the following MERDCS colours are/were available Greenhills Tamiya 10ml Bottle of Acrylic Paint – Bronze X-33 81533 – C534 Log in for wholesale price Greenhills Tamiya 10ml Bottle of Acrylic Paint – Flat Clear XF-86 81786 – C587 Log in for wholesale priceGreenhills Tamiya 10ml Bottle of Acrylic Paint – Gray Green XF-76 – C520 Log in for wholesale price I think my problem with Tamiya paints is that, like old Hunbrol and Airfix paints, they are actually fairly generic rather than specific matches. Compared to other paint manufacturers their range is very small at less than 100. Mixes matched to a fabric surface taken from the same Zero. This gray color would be found on all fabric-covered control surfaces. This British Wartime colour was used from April 1944 and was intended to closely match US Olive Drab to avoid the need to repaint US vehicles used by British and Commonwealth forces. It is generally described as being somewhat greener than Olive drab. Greenhills Tamiya 10ml Bottle of Acrylic Paint – Dark Green XF-61 81761 – C588 Log in for wholesale price

Bear in mind that all of these mixes were matched to extant artifacts. Have they changed in 70 years? Yes, but they are from protected areas or were souvenired and stored away from direct light since the war. In service, all coatings weather rapidly. I am providing you with a starting point. If you don't like the appearance of a mix, modify it until it suits you. After all, you are building the model to please yourself. There's a lot about the RAL history online. It is my understanding from this that while some of the names have changed to better describe the colours, the colours themselves have not changed. The same is true also of BS colours: BS LIght Stone today is exactly the same as BS Light Stone of the Western Desert campaign. Greenhills Tamiya 10ml Bottle of Acrylic Paint – Desert Yellow XF-59 – C592 Log in for wholesale price The beauty of RAL is that the colours have not changed one bit since inception. Ever. So a can of 8000 today is the same as a can of 8000 in 1942. However, some of the names have changed - which can be very misleading. 8000 was GelbBraun but is now GrunBraun. 7008 was GrauGrun but is now KhakiGrau. 8020 has remained Braun and 7027 has remained Grau.Maybe my eyes deceive me, but from what I can tell from reference photos the green tones of the costume should look like this: Here goes. These are taken from a Word document that I hand out when I give a PowerPoint presentation of Japanese Naval Aircraft colors. Thanks guys, i wish I could repay you for the wealth of information here, but I have limited knowledge in this area. I can only hope that this post will help someone else who may have this question in the future. Still working on exactly what I want to do with my MLRS. I think I'll go with the camo pattern as depicted in this photo. Greenhills Tamiya 10ml Bottle of Acrylic Paint – Dark Green 2 XF-89 – C536 Log in for wholesale price
