Vermiculite is a 100% natural material that can be used for void fill. It is made from aluminium-iron-magnesium-silicates and consists of thin, flat flakes. Also known as Micafil, it is sold in 100 litre (3.5 cubic ft) bags of lightweight chips and it is a great alternative to polystyrene chips. Please note that this material is sold in smaller bags than our standard loose fill chips. This makes it considerably easier to handle and store. Vermiculite Fineisgraded for horticultural use.It is lightweight, density approximately 100kg /m3, has a neutral pH (6.0-7.0), excellent insulation, retains water, and has a high porosity and high nutrient buffer capacity. Vermiculite Fine is widely used for covering fine seed during propagation and is also valuable in easing the water management of peat composts. Perlite is a white, ultra-lightweight aggregate ranging from a very fine powder to an aggregate with a particle size up to 5mm in sizePerlite insulation is used in high temperature applications in the steel and foundry industries such as ladle topping, hot topping and risering. Micafil Vermiculiteis a naturally occurring mineral expanded at high temperature to produce aerated particles - 90% air by volume. The free running properties of Vermiculite make it simple to install. Poured straight from the bag, it simply flows into and over all potential heat loss areas.Cover the whole loft floor with a continuous heat trapping carpet of insulation, level off. Completely fireproof, non-irritant and fibre-free, very lightweight Micafil is used in so many ways. Free flowing and easy to install, it is ideal for thermal and acoustic insulation in lofts, between floors, interior cavity walls and for pipe protection. Expanded perlite is a white, ultra-lightweight aggregate ranging from a very fine powder to an aggregate with a particle size up to 5mm in size. It is inorganic, inert, neutral in pH, biologically stable and has no asbestos content. It has excellent thermal insulation properties over an extremely wide temperature range from cryogenics at minus 273°C (absolute zero) up to refractory applications at over 1000°C. It also has a highly adsorbent surface and a very low bulk density, which makes it an ideal carrier or low cost filler for many compound formulations. Sinclair Horticultural Grade Vermiculite is porous so it helps retain water & nutrients in the soil for release to plants. Vermiculite is a natural, non-toxic mineral that is lightweight and has thermal insulation properties which makes it ideal for use as a pot topper.
