About this deal

I've never really experimented with whisky from Speyside, a region in North East Scotland around the River Spey known for its best-selling whiskies such as The Glenlivet and Glenfiddich. The finish is of decent length. The sweetness and richness stretch things out as the individual elements begin to fade - first the honey/toffee, then the green apples, then the dried fruit notes and finally the cereal and baking spice characteristics. There is definitely nothing wrong with Aberlour 14 years Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky. I've been a whisky drinker for several years now but my tastes are pointed towards options from Islay. We may sell, license, transfer, assign or in any other way dispose of the Service (including Members) to any third party without any notification to you, e.g. (but without limitation) in connection with any reorganization, restructuring, merger or sale, or other transfer of assets. There are only a few distilleries truly known for releasing sherry matured whiskies, and Aberlour is certainly one of them. Their entire core range is highlighted by sherry influenced drams, with the Aberlour a’bunadh probably the most well-known example.

In 1975 Pernod Ricard acquired Campbell Distilleries, and joined with Chivas Brothers in 2001 and eventually opened a visitor centre. The colour is golden amber and the nose has a lovely sweetness and richness to it. Aromas of brown sugar, caramel and heather honey mingle with some dried fruit (think of raisin, sultana and candied orange peel especially) initially. Then a hint of ripe brambles comes through along with a good pinch of baking spice (imagine cinnamon and all-spice in particular) and a distinct oat-like quality. It was bought by Robert Thorne & Sons who later sold it to W. H. Holt & Sons in 1921, a brewery near Manchester. It changed hands again in 1945 to S. Campbell & Sons Ltd. The flavours are typical Speyside but with a summer twist. It's full of vanilla flavours but there is a definite hint of summer fruits. Light, sweet and smooth, the whisky is beautifully balanced. It's a refreshing whisky that's perfectly pitched for a summer dram. When should you buy a bottle of the Aberlour? This is a bottle for those who enjoy their single malt whisky and want something high quality at a fair price. It's a good bottle to experiment with Speyside whiskies if you have not had much experience and the light flavours mean it is a great whisky for warm evenings and summer days. There you find the 'peated' whiskies - which means it is those with a smokier taste. My favourite comes from Laphroaig, a love-it-or-hate-it whisky that tastes a little like smoked ham and can taste a bit like medicine for some. I have not enjoyed a sweet whisky like this in a long time. Aberlour's use of two barrels to age the single malt - Oloroso Sherry casks and first fill American Oak casks - has lead to a unique but drinkable option.Aberlour Bottler Distillery Bottling Bottling serie Double Cask Matured Stated Age 14 years old Casktype American Oak, Oloroso Sherry Casknumber Batch 0001 Strength 40.0 % Vol. Size 700 ml Added on 21 aug 2023 8:18 am by danilo I'll be sharing the bottle at BBQs with others because that is what this Aberlour 14 years whisky is all about - sharing and enjoying. That can't be said of all whiskies, particularly if your friends and family are not single malt drinkers. Records the default button state of the corresponding category & the status of CCPA. Hailing from the glorious surroundings of Speyside, Aberlour Distillery makes some of the finest whisky in the world. It is currently owned by Chivas Brothers but unlike some of their other brands, like Strathisla or Glen Keith, Aberlour is largely released as Single Malts, and not used in their Chivas Regal blend.Aberlour 14 Year Old Double Cask has recently joined their core range alongside the 12, 16, and 18 Year Old releases. It is a combination of first-fill American oak (bourbon) casks and Oloroso sherry casks. Wet for the mainland tomorrow, with heavy and persistent rain for a time. Gales for coastal areas. Dry and bright for the Isles at first, but spells of heavy rain move in later in the afternoon. Today’s particular release is from ten years ago already, so the whisky for this was actually distilled in the early nineties. It is a Double Cask whisky, meaning it matured both ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The distillery reserve collection limited release of rare and exceptional whiskies from Chivas Brothers. Part of that ocore range is their 14 Year Old. This is one of the youngest malts that the distillery makes and is a really sumptuous offering. It has been matured in both Oloroso Sherry casks and first fill American Oak casks, giving it a wood forward flavour profile.

It is as far away from smoky whiskies as you can get. In fact many of the Speyside options are described as fruity and sweet. Couldn’t agree more. Really disappointed. Hints of nice flavours but really watered down or diluted. Such a shame as something of 14 years should be a strong flavoured dram Aberlour is currently owned by Chivas Brothers, part of the larger Pernod Ricard group who took over the distillery in the 1970s. It has an annual production capacity of 3.8 million litres, although plans are submitted for a major upgrade and expansion. Aberlour sits comfortably within the Top 10 in terms of worldwide single malt sales and market share, being particularly popular in France and the USA.Whiskybase B.V. is the Dutch private limited liability company, having its statutory seat in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and its office at Zwaanshals 530, 3035 KS Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
